Moorea, Bora Bora, & Tikehau

We just booked our honeymoon for a stop over in Papeete, then onto Moorea at the Hilton in a garden bungalow with plunge pool, then onto Bora Bora at the Le Meridien in an over water bungalow, then onto Tikehau at the Pearl Resort.

Anyone stay at these places? Any hidden hotel perks?
Any must do excursions? Any advice on how to void the crazy costs for food? I think we may be spending more on this honeymoon than we are on the wedding! But I am so excited! Four months!!!!!

Re: Moorea, Bora Bora, & Tikehau

  • I've stayed at the Hilton on Moorea, the Pearl on Tikehau, but have only spent the afternoon at Le Meridien Bora Bora. At the Hilton on Moorea, be sure to check out their crepe bar. It's a good way to keep food costs down and the crepes are amazing! Also, rent a car for a day and drive around the island (3 hours max) and stop at the market to pick up goodies. Fresh baguettes are readily available and make a good lunch if you buy some spreadable cheeses with it. You can also pick up juices there and soda to mix with liquor you purchase at duty free at LAX. Same with Bora Bora- there is a market just across from the Le Meridien boat dock. Be sure to stop in and pick up snacks. Tikehau is VERY remote. You can rent bikes at the resort and they'll shuttle you over to the island where the airport is located. Then, you can take your bikes to local snack shops or the market. Their interisland flights are lax and you can carry liquids and foods on, so you can bring your remaining snacks from Bora Bora to Tikehau. Tikehau is really the perfect island to not do a thing, so be prepared to just veg out. The water is amazingly blue, though. Be sure to not overpack and be sure to bring lots of sunscreen! It is very expensive to travel there, but well worth the money IMHO. I'm looking at heading back to Bora Bora later this year for my 6th trip :)

</div><div>As Jells mentioned, the crepe bar at the Hilton in Moorea is amazing!  I feel like I might have mentioned this to you in another post, but if not......if you walk out of the Hilton Moorea, turn right and go up the road, about 2 minute walk on the left is the Lilikoi Cafe.  It's a lunch truck in a woman's backyard.  The food is simple but delicious and reasonable.  She's only open for lunch (dinner on Friday though) and she takes USD.  Free wifi too.  (Don't let the barking dog behind the fence scare you away.)  </div><div>
</div><div>We rented a car in Moorea and circled the island.  Stopped at a grocery store and bought a bunch of things, then emptied the mini bar in the room.  You have to pay for internet at the Hilton Moorea, but it was down the entire time we were there (and is often down alot from what I hear), so they let you use the lobby computer internet for free. </div><div>
</div><div>Oh, if you want tap water, ask for it!  We paid about $9USD for a bottle of water at dinner twice in Bora Bora before I realized you could get tap for free if you asked! Not sure if that's everywhere, but worth a shot.</div><div>
    </div><div>Enjoy!</div><div>

I stayed at Le Meridien in Bora Bora!  It was fabulous, and I really can't say enough good things about it..  We did a lot of room service for dinners because it was significantly cheaper than eating in the dining room (and more fun to eat on our deck).  We also ate at the poolside snackbar for lunch most days.  We did stop at the grocery store and picked up a few snacks and alcohol, as well.

As far as excursions, do the shark feeding and coral gardens and stingray excursion.  All 3 stops were so much fun.

  • Can I ask where you booked your honeymoon through?  My fiance and I were thinking about doing something a long the same lines!
