Flower price examples

Hi! I'm getting married in Santa Ynez this September. We have about 50-60 people (hopefully) coming to our wedding. My question is what type of flower quotes are you all getting? I got mine today and it's like $3200!! Centerpieces are $300 each (5), bridesmaids bouquets are $85 each (5), flower balls to hang from lights $100 each (6). Is that just crazy expensive? Other stuff is included in the base $1000 that is part of the venue.

Please let me know what you think! I told her seasonal flowers, but it all seems a little high to me.

Thank you ladies!

Yeah, that seems high to me.  I used cymbidiums (which I understand are expensive) and calla lillies and as I got a discount through a connection, still the initial price before discount was $2880.  I had 13 centerpieces (at $95/piece), my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, boutts, corsages, and 8 aisle arrangements.  I would definitely look into getting that price down or going a different way if you can.  I don't know what kind of centerpieces would cost $300!  Wow!  Are they really ellaborate?  Especially since you specified seasonal flowers!  GL!

Oh, & I forgot to mention, Santa Ynez is DH and my FAVORITE place!  He took me there for the day on our first date and that's where we went on our "mini" moon!  Where is the wedding?  Gainey is our favorite vineyard!  I looked into doing our wedding there, but the drive and $, we chose to stay close to home.

Santa Ynez is gorgeous! Are you using an LA vendor or SB vendor? I would imagine that possibly vendors in Santa Ynez are few and far between so perhaps the prices are higher due to lack of competition? But that does seem very high to me, especially your centerpieces. I would contact vendors in LA and Ventura county and see if they'll travel. I have a feeling, even with a travel fee, you can get a better deal.

My florist was from Santa Barbara and we paid $4000. SB florists are much more expensive but if you use someone from LA they charge you a travel fee. Try Yamaguchi's Flowers - Another knottie used them and her flowers were beautiful - I think they were a little more reasonable. They are out of Fillmore, I think.

Flowers are REALLY expensive.  I went to a florist (hem...Petals by Xavai) and was SHOCKED!  I told them I was totally flexible, all I wanted was my bouqet, FH boutiner, 8 maids and 8 groomsmen, and parents.  We even would have picked it up, and the quote was $1600!  $200 for a bridal bouqet of the cheapest flowers possible, and my maids were only going to get a clutch, which was 5 flowers!

So, I went to a local Mario del Fante florist across the street from the church and got THE EXACT SAME THING with delivery for $735!  Couldn't BELIEVE it!

Stay away from florists who advertise as "wedding" florists, as they will be way more expensive.  Go to a local chain florist, and they have SET prices.  They don't just make up a price.

Thank you for the advice! She told me she's going to change the vase and that should help, but I'm also getting another quote.

What is your opinion on short vs tall centerpieces?

That price seems very high, but like others said your location is probably whats costing you. I went to Commerce Flowers (recommended by other Knotties) and they are fairly reasonable. I'm being quoted about 1900 for a calla lillie bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaids bouquets, 8 bouts (not sure how to spell that!), 3 mother/grandmother corsages, 2 flower girl baskets and petals, full outdoor ceremony with arch and aisle decoration, and reception with high and low centerpieces, cake decoration, and smaller centerpieces for outdoor cocktail tables. That price includes setup and delivery and tax.

I had looked into a local florist and she wanted to charge me 200+ for a simple centerpiece, thats when I started searching the boards for other recs.

$300 per centerpiece is exorbitant.  What kind of flowers are we talking about here?
If it's roses you're getted bent over. Roses are 80 cents a stem wholesale for any color.  Even if you were getting full blown peonies unless the centerpiece is like 5 feet  tall and lead crystal up the yazoo, you're still being taken.

Although alot of girls go for the fancy vases, keep in mind sometimes guests will grab it.  And they will be alot more happy with something that they can take home rather than something that looks spectacular and you will have to pay more for if it breaks.

Go with simple vases your guests will be able to grab and take with them--embelish with mirrors and votives.

That price for a 50-60 person wedding is ridiculous. If you have 5 centerpieces you should be paying about $30-45 max for pretty lush bouquets unless you are trying to use trees then it may be a bit more because the trees themselves can be pretty pricey even from downtown LA vendors. As for bridesmaids you should be paying around $50-75 per bridesmaid and about $65-125 for your own bouquet depending again on your choice of flowers and the size of the bouquets. Depending on the size of the flower balls and type of flowers being used you should be paying about $30-45. You should check out downtoearthcelebrationsatgmail.com they are great at working with their clients and they also offer month before and day of planning services if you decide you want someone else to worry about the details for the rehearsal dinner and day of coordinating.

Best of luck and tell that florist there is no way you are going to pay those prices. Max for those few things you are requesting you should be paying between $1000 and $1200.
