Tips on Trials

Do I tip the same on trials and day of for hair and make up?

Re: Tips on Trials

  • Whether you want to tip the same amount is up to you, but I would definitely recommend giving a generous tip at the trial if you are planning on hiring the MUA for your wedding day. You want them to go into that day feeling positive and appreciated! I would plan on tipping the same amount and then add to it if you feel the wedding day makeup deserved even more.

  • I'd tip 20% of the cost for both the trial and the day of.  If they charge less for the trial then the tip would be a little smaller.

We tipped the same for both the trial and the wedding day.  The cost was the same for both.  The trial obviously took a little bit longer because we tried a few different things.  But we also got "wedding day" treatment on the wedding day (special room to hang out in, cold drinks, etc).

  • Yes.  20% should be standard for both day of and for any pre-wedding services (trials, waxing, nails etc).  And the other posters are also right.  Salons and stylists absolutely keep a mental list of their best tipping clients and take extra good care of them!
