Seating Charts

I just remembered that I wanted to ask about this!!  Any good ideas about how to do seating charts?  What are people using/doing?  We are starting to get more responses and its time to start figuring out where to put people :)  Any help would be awesome!!

We are just doing tables... not actual seat assignments :-) So escort cards only.

I have been assigned seats in the past and not assigned in the past and as long as I have a table I'm usually good... plus with little kids I figured they may want to sit next to brother, grandma, or mom depending on the day ;-)
  • I got a big piece of foam board and some post-it flags. Mine are color coded because we're having children and I am making goodie bags for the kids so I have pink and blue for the little girls and boys and then I did my family and friends in yellow and FI's family in green and our bridal party is purple. (no real reason for this except to see the breakdown of his vs mine) draw a brief layout of your venue and how many tables you think you'll need in whatever shape they are and start sticking! I have found it really helpful because you can unstick and move if needed. Number your tables and you're done!

  • To figure it out I am using exel. I was trying to use the seating chart tool on TK but have so many tables I was having to scroll over a lot more, exel was just easier for me to see quickly which tables have less then 8 people and all the names at once.

To display I am using a big foamboard that will have the table lists glued onto it.

  • I am still 90% I am not doing a seating chart, but if I do I just made a fancy word document that I was planning to paste on a pretty cardboard for guests to see what table they are at. Something nice, but not overly fancy and time consuming.

  • I got a layout from my DOC, enlarged it, and am putting the skinny post its around each table for guest names.. I have two different colros, one for FI's side, and one for my side.

  • Thanks for the ideas!!  I am actually not doing seat assignments per say but just which table the guests will be at.  I will probably do the sticky note thing :)

  • I am not doing a seating chart. We will have 2 rooms, divided by a fireplace and patio doors, so I didn't want some to feel like we were cutting them out of "seeing" us. With almost 120 accepted, I don't want to stick a few people with someone they don't like.

  • as PPs have said, we're only assigning tables. We're sitting people with those they know or would be comfortable with. However, I'm really only doing this to make sure the room isn't split in 1/2 b/w his family and my family.

I using the I DO wedding software by ELM, it makes completing seating charts very easy. I am only doign table assignments.
  • I am doing table assignments and we are having a seating scroll so no escort cards.

I have an excel sheet with the number of tables I am allowed to have (we are maxed out at 19).

When I was doing the invites, I grouped everyone by family to make sure I didn't forget anyone, so now I'm just grouping families together (parents w/ parents, cousins with cousins, college friends, hometown friends, etc) and just filling in the spaces on each table.  That way I can print it out and bring it around to FI, my mom, FI's parents and make sure there aren't any issues and then I can just reprint each time.
