Need suggestions on venues

I know there are a thousand discussions on venues and I'm just adding to the collection -- sorry!

So here's the deal I need a venue for the reception only that's within 30 minutes max of Bowie, MD. My budget is on the small side. The max for a wedding package is $10k (catering, cake, centerpieces, linens, tableware, tips, wait staff, etc included). If it isn't a package the max for catering is $4200 (everything included) and for the site $2000-3000. We are expecting about 130 people to come and are having it in Oct. 2011. We only are willing to have it on a Saturday. We would really REALLY have to love the place to be willing to the reception during the day, def prefer a reception starting around 5pm or so.

Here's the places I've checked out...
Knights of Columbus Halls (Bowie, Severna Park, etc.)

The Villa (love it but way outta my budget) in Calverton

Lake Presidential (again love it but can't afford it)

Holy Family Social Hall in Davidsonville  (within budget but would need lots of decor, kinda plain looking and the FI doesn't like the idea of having the ceremony at one church then heading to a diff church for the reception)

Michaels 8th Avenue package is within my price range and has everything for a lil under $10k but I don't like that there could be up to 4 weddings going on at once and the decor is not nice. I would have to get drapery around the ballroom to cover it up and get it more to my liking

Patuxent Greens Golf Club is also within budget but I wasn't all that
impressed with the layout of the rooms. The dance floor being in a separate room from the dining, doesn't interest me much.

I really am not a mansion type of girl and the only mansion I did like, Oxon Hill Manor, is booked for Saturdays in Oct. 2011.

I have an appt to see the Sheraton of Annapolis next week since they are within my budget.

Are there any other places, either just reception sites or wedding packages, that you can think of I should check out?

Thanks!

I sincerely wish I could help cause I'm in the exact same predicament you are.  Right now we are looking at the Holidy Inn BWI (totally renovated!) and the Doubletree in Columbia.  It's a tough spot to be in cause there isn't much else out there in our price range.

My ideal venue:  the Baltimore Museum of Industry.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.  That's the exact reason I do not want to go look at it.  haha

I went to Michael's too. If you find something let me know we are in the same price range. But I will change it because I will have to do the same thing.

I am having my reception at Overhills Mansion in Catonsville, MD (balt. county). It doesn't look like the typical mansion.  Take a look at it, they are pretty reasonable with prices.

    Good luck!

I heard that Overhills lets you bring your own alcohol there and anything unopened they will return for you and refund and anything left over you can take with you - definitely a budget saver!

Overhills is beautiful - we checked it out last weekend.  BUT once we added up the PP cost for the cheapest option, the ceremony fee, venue fee, cake, and estimated alcohol prices, they were actually at the top of our list of choices.  They were within $1,000 of our top venue, but we're really afraid of space being an issue.  Which we are very sure it will be.  If our number of guest changes, then it could work.  They told me they can have 10 tables in the upper ballroom section, leaving the lower level to have another 5 tables, plus cake table, DJ table, AND dancefloor?  For 150?  Not gonna happen.  We plan on dancing all night long - lol.

However, I think for a smaller wedding, it is a perfect venue.  I LOVED the ceremony space and the outdoor terrace for the cocktail hour.  It was beautiful, but for 150 it's tight.  They can seat 200 people but there is no room for dancing.

BTW, how on earth did you get in touch with someone from the Sheraton Annapolis?  I've been calling all week long and left 2 message and no one has called me back.
