Omni William Penn Venue Reviews/Thoughts/Info?

Hi! I am looking into the Omni William Penn Hotel for my reception next fall. Anyone have any thoughts on the staff/service/food etc?

I am considering the William Penn Ballroom. Anyone ever been to a wedding in this room? I think it has a lot of potential, but I would love to see it actually set up for a wedding.

Thanks in advance!

I've been to a few weddings there. It is known to be a pricey space, and I think their in-season Saturday minimum is 50k, which they tell you at the end of the tour.

If that fits your budget, it can be very pretty. With that budget though, there are other spaces in town I like more, like the Pennsylvanian, Carnegie Museums, etc.

    HTH!

OK, so the "grand ballroom" at the Omni has a 35K min.. but that is NOT the room I am considering. The William Penn is the room below the lobby. Very nice room holds up to 250 guests, and about half that price! That's the room I am asking about if anyone has been to a wedding there.

Any other reviews though, on the staff/service etc?

I've never been to the room beneath the lobby...no flames, but is it basement like?

Honestly, I think the William Penn in general is overrated. It is definitely showing its age in many ways. It is an old, old building.

They do a nice job with their events, but no nicer than any of the other dozens of venues in town.

What do you like about it specifically?

I think there are newer, less expensive, better looking hotel spaces in town, personally.

We went to a wedding there recently that was held on one of the upper floors. I don't think it was the grande ballroom, but I haven't ever been there before this, so I don't know. The wedding was nice but teh decor was very dated. I felt like I was stepping in time with the massive draperies and patterned carpets. The wedding was nice but it was minimally decorated because everything she wanted to do would have looked dated or clashed with the room.

Other than that, wait staff was good, food was average, (to be honest I don't even remember what we ate and neither does FI) Space was limited in the room so there was a small bar in one corner and a larger bar just outside the main door. Bathrooms were a hike.

Like I said, I don't know if this is the room you looked at, but I hope it helps.

What other recommendations do you have for downtown?

I think I have looked at all the places downtown. I have seen The Westin, The Renaissance, Heinz History Center, The Duquesne Club and the Priory.

I like a traditional  not so much modern/contemporary

I didnt like the DoubleTree or Sheraton and the Fairmont is too expensive.

    Any others I'm missing??

Have you looked into the Carnegie Museum in Oakland? I'm having my wedding there in the Music Hall Foyer and it is just spectacular!

Also, try checking into the Pennsylvanian - beautiful space, but you have to bring in all of your own vendors for everything. Stunning space though!

The Carnegie is booked for all of Sept-Oct 2011 and the Pennsylvanian is too expensive.

I do like the Omni alot, but I just want to make sure I haven't overlooked any potential venues.

The Rivers club is downtown as well - not a hotel, but might give you the look you are going for.  What about Grand Concourse?  That space is lovely.

The Sheraton in Station Square is right across the bridge. JamieK just had her wedding there.
