DW 100+ Guests Reception Locations

Hello Ladies- I am so excited to be planning my destination wedding!  I am new to the board and feel like I have done a sufficient amount of lurking to make sure I am not breaking any protocol here.  I am in the very beginning stages of planning our DW in playa del carmen.  we are anticipating 100-125 guests.  We have our hearts set on a reception area that is covered but open air.  The woman I am working with says this cannot be done, but I simply cannot believe that.  Does anyone have any tips/recommendations on resorts that do a good job of accommodating such a large party?  Thanks in advance for your help, I am really looking forward to sharing and collaborating with you ladies!

Congrats and welcome!  We are getting married in Florida, so I do not have any info to offer on Mexico.  However, there are lots of girls on here that are planning or have recently had weddings in Mexico!
    Good luck with your planning!

  • We did ours at aventura spa palace in the Mayan riviera (not too far) and they had a few sights at the resort for larger groups. They are correct that it may be difficult to find areas big enough that are covered but aren't inside but somewhere will have to have it. Ours was on a gazebo on the beach but our guest list was 22 people (gazebo could fit 70 if placed at round tables I think). Keep looking at resorts in the area and email the head wedding planner to find out if they have spots like that or ask for them to send you an email with the available ceremony and reception (private event) locations. I do remember that we could have chosen the indoor pool area and it was almost open air, one full wall could open and half of the two side walls as well. And it could hold quite a few guests. Good luck!

  • Congrats and welcome! I suggest reaching out to Beach Bum Vacation. I am working with Melissa and she is great. They are a travel agency that specializes in destination weddings and don’t charge you to use their services. They give you a questionnaire to fill out where you can say what you are looking for and help you find a resort that has what you’re looking for.

  • Trudm75- Thanks and good luck with your wedding in FL!
HappyMaddie- Thanks for the info.  I looked up aventura spa palace, it is beautiful!  I am going to reach out to the WC there.
Loramarie03- I wish I would have seen this 5 days ago.  We registered with bestdestinationweddings.com.  They are sending a lot of information, but I feel like she is disregarding a lot of the things I said were important ie our request that we dont want our reception in a ballroom.  If we keep hitting a wall, I might just have to eat the $50 and call BBV.  Thanks for the tip!

Maybe check Paradisus - Playa del Carmen.  We ended up getting married in Cancun, but this was one of the places we were checking out.  I didn't get a lot of information about it, but I just found this album, and it looks like there's a thatched roof where they did the ceremony and reception.
