Where is eveyone going on thier honeymoon? FI and I dont travel much. Neither of us have been out of the country but, we are thinking a cruise. If you have any imput on what cruise lines you like or where to go I would appreciate it. :)

Re: Honeymoon

  • FI and I won't be able to afford much, so we'll most likely just go a few hours north for a few days on the North Shore :-)

  • We love to travel. Weekends away are great I wish I could do them all the time! We have one coming up in 3 weeks!!! We have two choices for honeymoon Hawaii with cruise along diff islands or European cruise. I love cruises I've only been on 2 but they were the best experiences especially since our 2nd cruise was when he proposed!
  • As far as cruises go...it largely depends on which cruiseline. FI gma gave us a cruise for a gift, which was very generous and unexpected. We would have saved it for our honeymoon if we had been engaged when it was given. It was to Cozumel and while it was a nice experience...we decided we will never go on another cruise. Ever. We went through Carnival. There really wasn't a lot to do. TMI I'm sure, but we are abstaining from sex before marriage. If that was something we were able to do in good concious then I'm sure the cruise would have been a lot more fun!!! If you go, I suggest a higher end cruiseline and going when school is in session. As for us, it's looking like no honeymoon. If FI gets the job he interviewed for a week or so ago...then maybe we will be able to go to Florida or something. We are spending a couple of days in a treehouse after the wedding, so we might count that as our honeymoon otherwise.

  • I would love to go on a cruise but not for our honeymoon. We're going to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I ran across this place yesterday in Finland (lol I know, so random) and if we could afford it I would definitely want to go here: http://www.kakslauttanen.fi/en/accommodation/

We're doing a Carnival Cruise from Florida (I can't remember the place it departs from).  I've been on Carnival twice before and it's fun.  It's also very budget friendly.

I will be honest though, there aren't a lot of things to do unless you really like laying out all day.  There are shows at night yes, but the days at sea can get boring unless you want to lay out.

I thought the food was delicious though.  I just wanted to put that out there.

  • We are also going on a cruise to Bahamas out of New York.  Google cruise lines and you will see so many options!

    Happy Planning!
  • I've gone on a holland America Caribbean cruise and loved it. There weren't many kids and the Bahamas were beautiful. Jamaica was a bit much due to the locals trying to sell you stuff but I don't think you can avoid that

  • I have been on 7 cruises. In my opinion, Carnival and Royal Caribbean are the best. Carnival is nicknamed the 'fun ship'. Its a really fun atmosphere, the clubs are fun, they have lots of deck parties and contests, and its alot alot of fun. There's bars like every two steps, lol. If you're looking for that choose Carnival. Royal Caribbean is more for the older laid back crowd. If you are cruising to relax, then Royal Caribbean would be it. They both have casino's and are both a good time, depending on what kind of vacation you want. FI and I are cruising on Carnival for our honeymoon. Our cruise is a 7night Southern Caribbean cruise leaving from San Juan, PR. We go to five different islands. St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. FI has never cruised before so I'm planning all the excursions and whatnot on what I know he wants to do. Most cruises leave from Florida (Orlando/Port Canaveral, Tampa, Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale). Those cruises normally visit 4 islands and have 2days at sea. FI and I have 5 islands and one day at sea. You definitely would have to search the cruise line websites for the different cruises that are offered. It all depends on where you think you would want to go the most. We used to decide by looking to see what it is to do on the different islands, and then choosing. The cruise lines offer shore excursions and tours that you can go on, and you can also go on shoretrips.com, they're really good too. And they pick you up and drop you off at your ship. You don't have to even go on tours. I know when I went to Cozumel we just hung out by the ship. Bar hopped at Senor Frogs and Carlos and Charlies and went to a local beach. It all depends on the island. Just make sure you're back on the ship about 35mins to an hour before the ship leaves dock. The price depends on when you go. Cruise are most expensive June, July, beginning of August, and Holidays. Shore excursions vary in price depending on the activity you want to do. You would have to search the cruise website for that too. Like I knew FI really wanted to swim with Dolphins. We're doing that in St. Thomas nd its $160 per person. I wanted to tour Barbados and swim with the sea turtles. We're doing that also and that's $144per person. They have lazy beach days and tours that run for only $30-50 also, so like I said you have to check it out. The price also differs depending on your room type. They have interior rooms(inside cabins/no windows/balcony), ocean view rooms(porthole window), balcony rooms, and suites (larger balcony rooms). I like the balcony rooms. Its nice to wake up in the morning and sit on the balcony and see the port you're docked at or sit on your balcony at night watching the waves, sleeping with the door cracked to hear the water. The greatest thing about cruises to me is that all your meals are included and you can eat and order as much as you want in the restaurant at no charge. You can get the beverage package which is only like $20 and you get unlimited fountain drinks the whole cruise and all you have to pay for is alcoholic beverages. This is both cruise lines. Carnival has a steakhouse that you have to pay $30 for and Royal Caribbean has an italian restaurant and a Johnny Rockets on board that you have to pay extra for. They have dining rooms and buffets on both ships, sushi stands, asian stations, every food you can think of and its unlimited and free. Even 24hr pizza and ice cream. Best thing ever. Lol

Sorry for the essay, but as you can tell, I LOVE cruises. Best way to travel in my opinion. Feel free to ask me any questions.! I've been to alot of different places. Hope this helps.!

Lol. You DO love cruises! OP...if you have never been on a cruise before, chances are that you will like it. Shan had a lot of good things to say about them, so let me even the playing field by giving you my opinion of them. As stated in my previous post, my fiance and I abstain according to our beliefs, so we were just flat out bored the majority of the time. We went on a 4 day cruise from New Orleans with one port of call in Cozumel. The days at sea consisted of me getting seasick...with no warning...in public. The nightly entertainment was waaaay worse than a high school drama club production, the food was awful anywhere but the dining room, and our ship was pretty old and not appealing. We went on the Carnival Elation. We felt like we were at summer camp with all the activities and didn't like being on a schedule. Now. If you do what Shan does and debark from Florida, then you are more likely to have a good time because you spend more time in the ports of call. Whichever cruiseline you go on, research the ship and make sure it's newish, go right after your wedding so there are not as many kids, and definitely splurge for the oceanview suite or balcony suite. PS...the shore excursions are really overpriced and if you do your homework beforehand, you can do the same thing through a local business on the island for much less than through the cruiseline. I will end this post how I say goodbye to many of my friends....make wise choices! Edit: Mutzie the comedian was the highlight of our trip. I said the entertainment sucks, but one comedian was amazing and we went to his show every night.

  • FI and I have been on one cruise and we loved it.  It was with Norwegian and it was 10 nights to the Carribean.  We left out of NYC and stopped at San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Tortola.  The entertainment was fantastic and we were never bored.  We had 2 sea days, then 4 port days and then 2 more sea days.  It was nice having the sea days to relax when we wanted.  I found that there were plenty of activities during the day and the shows at night were really great.

I did a TON of research before we went and chose Norwegian because they're much more laid-back than the other cruise lines.  You're not required to dress up for dinner and you can dine whenever you want.  While FI and I like getting dressed up occasionally, it's not something we feel like doing every night when we're on vacation so that was a big deal for us.

All of that said, we opted not to cruise for our honeymoon.  We did look into it, however, at the end of the day we decided to go with an AI resort in Mexico instead.

  • We are doing an AI resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I am so exctied. Never been out of the country. I know parts of Jamaica are unsafe so we will probably stay at the resort most of the time but the resort does have a bus that will drive people to certain places in Jamaica to visit so I think we will do an excursion to Dunns Rivers falls and Bob Marley's house since FI loves Bob Marley.

I've never been on a cruise. They seem like the most inexpensive way to travel but idk I am terrified of getting seasick. I get motion sickness very easily and I would not want to be stuck at sea sick for 7 days.

I would like to go on a cruise at some point so at my next Doctors appointment I'm going to ask about the bracelets people get and if I should get back on my motion sickness meds.

  • I think a cruise is a good way to go your first time leaving the country. I have been on 2 Carnival cruises, 1 Disney, 1 Norwegian and I studied abroad with Semester at Sea. Basically I lived on a cruise ship that literally went around the world, which was awesome!

After being on so many, I don't really want to do anymore for a while. I don't like that you spend so much time on a ship rather than being in the ports. I also don't like being limited to the food provided by the ship. Norwegian has the worst food, and it is especially hard to find healthy options.  That being said it's a great way to see several locations without having to arrange travel and hotel accommodations. There are also many excursions set up through the cruise line, they may be a little more expensive, but I like knowing if something goes wrong and the trip gets back late that the cruise ship will know about it and wait for the group to get back.

Also even though I mentioned not liking the food on Norwegian, they did have some great shows, especially the Blue Man Group! And I recommend getting a room with a balcony, I always loved watching the ship come into port and also leaving. There is something very romantic about staring out to the ocean.

Depending on what your looking for in your honeymoon, an all inclusive resort might be a good alternative. I would make a list of what you want to be able to do on your honeymoon and see what would better fulfill the list.

We will be going to Tahiti on our honeymoon! I can't wait :)

  • I was on the Epic in January 2012, it's a lot bigger ship (3rd largest int he world I think) so I'm thinking maybe because they have to accommodate more people the food quality decreased? Or maybe just a difference of opinion :)
