Mother Son Songs- help please

FI and his Mom haven't picked a song yet.  Neither of them are that into music, neither have a song that makes them think of each other and I feel like time is closing in on us.  Can you girls please tell me what songs your Husbands/FIs chose?

If it comes down to it, I'll give them an extensive list so they have somewhere to start.

And no, I really don't want any part of this, but I'm afraid it won't get done if I don't at least make suggestions and point them in the right direction.

FI is dancing to You'll be in my Heart by Phil Collins. It's super cheese but the only song they could both agree on. It was a painful process.

Sherri, I think I'm the most freaked out I've ever been in this process  FI haven't even made a final song decision, getting my Dad to pick a song was like pulling teeth and now I feel like this is a pain.  FI's Mom wants to come over and listen to some songs, so I don't feel like I have much of a choice but to compile a list and have youtube open to play songs for them to say No to.  :)

Awww sorry to hear :( Honestly FI made a CD of all the songs he would be willing to use and had his mom pick from the CD. She had made a CD previously and gave it to him and it was quite obvious she simply googled Mom/Mother. I swear to you she even included TuPac because he had a song with Mom in the title. It'll get worked out!

My FI and his mom are using What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I think the story goes that his mom use to sing it to him when he was little. So it means something special to both of them. It may be a little over done but that's what they would like.

My FI and his mom will be dancing to Forever Young by Rod Stewart.

Some other good ones you could use:
    My Wish by Rascal Flatts
What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban
There You'll Be by Faith Hill

My husband picked 4 songs and she picked from that. I remember one of them was "How sweet it is.." She loves country so she wanted "I hope you dance...' Whatever made her happy!

At this point, if they told me they wanted to dance to "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns N Roses, I'd be like "GREAT!"

I think FI and I just finalized our song.  We never had a "song" and he never listens to music.  Looks like we settled on "At Last" by Etta James, or we might use the Beyonce version.  I know it's way overdone, but it's classic, it's romantic and it fits.

I'm 38 and he's 39.  We were both pretty sure we'd never meet someone we wanted to marry.

FI is having the same difficulty. He is a huge Beatles fan and would love to do a Beatles song, but his mom isn't a fan of the Beatles. They have a difficult relationship and he doesn't want something sappy. She would love Three Times a Lady because she is a huge Lionel Richie fan, but he doesn't feel the song fits. We keep going over it day after day and it is frustrating.

H and MIL danced to My Wish by Rascal Flatts, H didn't really care, his mom picked it.

It was a last minute decision for DH and his mom... like 3 days before the wedding. His mom picked Walk Tall by John Mellencamp... it's 7 minutes long so I told the DJ to cut it down drastically haha. I also watched the video and it has a midget getting tormented... but to each his own.

My dad picked "I Will" for me and him, but the Allison Krauss version. Could your FI maybe find a Beatles cover song?

My MIL passed away years ago, so I can't help with the Mother-Son song. Sorry.

I just pitched something else to FI.  His father passed away a few years ago and I thought maybe if they get stuck we can ask his Mom what she danced to with his Dad at their wedding. It's probably a long shot because it might not be appropriate for a mother and son, but FI liked the idea.  It might be a way to bring meaning to it rather than just pick something out of the air.    Stay tuned :)

I like that idea... but would it make FMIL too emotional? If she's okay with it, I think it's a nice tribute

If you want something a little less well known, try listening to Toby Lightman's "Better" - it's what we're using, and I think it's beautiful :)

    Good luck!!

My husband and Mother-in-law danced to "What a Wonderful World".

My FI and his mom are dancing to Israel K's Somewhere Over the Rainbow...
My FFIL mentioned that he and his daughter might dance to You've Got a Friend when she gets married, which would work well for either Mother/Son or Father/Daughter, I think.

My FI and FMIL will be dancing to Wind beneath my wings by bette midler.  The song makes me want to burst into laughter but I know it's his mom's favorite. Honestly, most people won't remember the song, so if it comes down to it, just have them pick something off a list they won't mind dancing to for 3 minutes.

just made my list with lyrics and youtube links, I came up with 11, but at least 4 are a stretch!  I also made one for FI for cake cutting songs.  Why did I leave everything until the sort of last minute?
