Alterations - Moni's Bridal -OR- Elizabeth's Bridal?

So I found my dress at Elizabeth's bridal in Northville and fell so in love with it, my mom and I ordered it on the spot, without looking around at different salons for it first.  Well, I found my BM dresses at Moni's bridal in Farmington Hills.  I was at Moni's the other day with one of my Junior BM to get her measured.  Moni, the owner, said I should bring my dress to her for alterations, she said she was the best around.  I read a couple of bad reviews about alteration at Elizabeth's, so now I'm a little concerened.  My dress should be here within the next month.  Has anyone had alteration experiences with either salon, and if so, which did you prefer?

  • I too got my bridesmaid dress at Moni's and my dress at Elizabeths.  I would not recommend either.  I have no experience with Moni's alterations but her customer service sucks. They  messed up our dress order and even though we had the original order forms bascially told us tough.  She ordered two of the dresses way too big.  Her resolution to the issue was to let her do the alterations at a discount.  The maid's dresses of which she messed up live in Ohio and New Jersey.  So that was not an acceptable resolution.  It ended up costing one of the girls a ton for alterations because they had to take off so much material.  As far as Elizabeth's goes...they are unorganized in regards to alterations.  They cancelled my appointment twice and tried to reschedule the appointment for less than two weeks before my wedding.  I kept trying to explain to them that a first fitting should not be so close to the wedding.  They weren't getting it.  I pulled my dress and took it to the Wedding Shoppe in Berkely.  I highly recommend them.  I had to drive 45 minutes to get there but it was worth it.  They are flexible with appointment times and fit me in right away...even though I was three and a half weeks from my wedding at that point.  They did an amazing job and actually cost me a little less than half of what Elizabeth's wanted to charge me.

These were just my experiences. You could google Moni's and look for reviews and see what others had to say.

    Good Luck!
  • Let me start by saying that I've been stalking this board for a while but haven't really said anything.  I hope what I have to say helps in this case.

I hated Elizabeth's when I went there to look at dresses.  They were rude and didn't really care about me at all.  Didn't buy my dress there.  My FMIL went to Moni's for her dress and said while she had a good experience she wouldn't order anything from them or take anything for alterations there because they're so pushy.  I haven't heard good things about either place honestly.

One of my BMs had her wedding dress altered at The Wedding Shoppe and loved them there.  She tried to talk me into getting mine done there too but it was a bit too much of a drive for me.  45 min in the car is to be avoided for me personally but I would recommend based on what she said.  They took her dress in a lot and she had them make a shrug to cover her shoulders than looked amazing!

I'm going with Bella Alterations in Livonia.  They were recommended by my dress shop.  I LOVE them.  A mother daughter team who really know what they're doing and it's not costing me nearly what I thought it would.  They're very kind and took the time to actually get to know me personally.  Loving my experience so far and we've had some bumps with unexpected alterations already!  Would highly recommend.
