Candy Buffet

I just want to pick your brain for a minute. When I was planning my wedding, I really wanted to do a candy buffet but I found them to be a little too expensive and just sort of extra stress that I didn't want or need. I don't know if these things exist but I've been recently thinking of starting a business to provide the services of a candy buffet for weddings, parties, or different gatherings. This would include the table, the set up, candy, dishes, and people to refill the candy at the event. Would you new brides use this feature? What are your thoughts on a candy buffet?

Re: Candy Buffet

  • i know my caterer does it if i wanted it and i know a few others who do that as well. i guess it depends on your area. i personally find the candy buffet a bit overdone. it can be pretty but it seems like EVERYONE is doing them so i find it a bit of a current fad

  • We did a candy buffet (I honestly saw the idea at a friend's wedding about 3 or 4 years ago before they got huge and knew I wanted to do one back then). Our florist/decor person offered to set up the candy buffet table for us, including letting us use different glasses and bowls she had, plus they filled all the dishes and decorated the table for an extra $100. I would not go out and find/hire a separate person to do this though.

  • I really enjoyed planning/setting up our candy bar and I actually use some of the apothecary jars as decor in our home now. I wouldn't have considered using an outside vendor.

  • I saw a vendor at one of our local bridal shows who does something similar to what you're talking about.  They offer the full range of candy, also savory snacks like Chex Mix, goldfish crackers, pretzels ... also mixed nuts, granola, and other healthy options ... things like that.  They provide set-up, take down, all the display jars and scoops, boxes/bags/cellophane cones with the option for customized labels or ribbons, etc., and little cups to put inside the boxes (like the ketchup cups at some fast food restaurants).

The candy buffet may be a bit of a fad, but if you have the ability to diversify a bit like the lady I met (you could even offer a cereal bar for late-night/early-morning snack), I think it's a viable small business idea.  Personalized favor buffets!
