First official write in

So I knew I wouldn't be the only one!  Today I came home to our first official write in on the rsvp.  It's for FI's friend's kids.  I'm going to wait and talk to FI, because technically we weren't going to invite kids outside of immediate family & WP kids.  It's not that I don't want kids at the wedding, but I hate to make an exception.  I know 2 wouldn't break us (1 wouldn't even eat the food).  They wrote in 4 (if kids are welcome).  haha  Sigh.....

ha, yep they wrote that!  Ours isn't that expensive, but we are having a smaller wedding.  We shall see......

  • Wow 50 for a kids meal?? Thank god our venue gives us a discount...we have like 40 kids coming!
  • Our kids meals would have been about $45, so just about the same thing, so nope, none of htem are coming, ha. Our youngest is fourteen, so we set that as the age "limit".

  • Oh gosh our kids meals are 25$ lol... and our meals are 42.50 thats with soup and salad

we are only having 7 kids coming (5 including WP) and 2 under 2 so they won't be eating kids meals... ... as most of our friends took the night off and got babysitters lol...

at least they wrote IF kids are included... which does give you the option to decide yes or no...

  • Did you invite other couples without their children?  If so, you probably should stick to your no kids outside immediate family and the WP.  Your other friends might be annoyed to see that these kids are welcome but theirs are not.  If they wrote (if kids are welcome) it seems like they know their kids weren't invited and shouldn't put up too much of a fight if you say no.
  • I would talk to fi but whatever you set in the beginning you should stick to once you make an exception the flood gates tend to open and feelings get hurt.

That's exactly what I told FI.  He thought it was no big deal, but I said that other couples who didn't take it upon themselves to ask to invite their kids might get upset with they see more at the wedding.  We did not invite other kids other than nieces, nephews and WP kids (2).  We are going to talk about it again tonight, and look at the potential ripple effect of it, but I'm leaning on sticking to our original plan.

Yes, it's nice that they wrote in "if", and they've been through the wedding planning so they gave us an easier out if we stick to our guns.

It's partially because of money.  Our kids meal is only $18, but they charge $12/kid for drinks (they better drink a lot of pop!), so it's adding $30 each.  But also, we are only having around 100 people there, so I don't want the kids number to creep up.  I want the adults in our lives to have fun!!  haha, I was thinking about it on the morning dog walk and I thought it was funny that instead of them paying for a sitter, we would now get to pay $30.....and it means more kids activity packages I have to make!  Again, this just seems to be an effect of being one of the last to get married!  haha
