Alterations: Yay with a sorta boo

Had the first fitting with Darcy yesterday.  She's super nice and helpful as is her assistant.  So, with the working out, it did indeed lead to me going down in size.  While the pricing for the work seems fair, especially due to the material of my dress, I'm not real happy to be spending about half how much my dress cost in alterations.

When I bought the dress, I bought in the size I was a year ago and when the seamstress went to tie the corset back, she couldn't tighten it all the way due to the inches I've lost.  So the dress will be getting:

Hemmed
Bustle
Cups sewn in
Crinoline added
1" taken in on each side

I'm trying to look on the positive: it's easier and typically less expensive to have a dress taken in and yay for having it taken in and I won't need to spend $ on a crinny or strapless bra/bodyshaper.  The cost of having the cups sewn in is $25, and having more tulle added is only $35 (I think crinnys run $50 at DB?) so I am saving there.  And the bill is about what I expected it to be, but it just sucks at the same time.

One thing I am pretty excited about is the hair fascinator I found at Darcy's.  I wasn't sure if I was going to use one, but she had some really nice ones and one that I did really like and ended up getting.

I'm glad you had a good experience (in spite of the extra $).  I'm going to call her today!

Oooo, want to see the hair fascinator!!! I liked the stuff she had at the wedding show but she didn't have any birdcages. Sorry about the cost :(

:(  Sorry the cost wasn't what you wanted. I'm dreading this experience, too.

I'm confused - you say you are getting the crinoline added, but that you don't have to pay for a crinny? I thought they were the same thing?

They are.  I'm not buying a crinny, I'm having one sewn in.  So, basically, rather than buying a separate petticoat/crinny from DB or something like that and wearing it under the dress, I'm having her add more tulle under the skirt.

Oh, I see. I wonder if it's cheaper to go that route?

Depends on your seamstress. Darcy is charging $35 for the crinny to be added vs. I think DB's $50 for one.  But at the same time, my dress is a slim A-line, so it doesn't need to have a ton added to it.

Congrats on losing so much weight.  I know the cost sucks, but think how awesome your pics will be.  And your honeymoon.  Its worth it.

My dress comes w/ several layers of tulle underneath it, and I want them taken out.  : )  But, I'll keep them if it means not having to hem the dress, we'll see.

I'm glad you had your first fitting and loved Darcy! That gets a lot of us girls excited! I'm sorry about the extra cost but at least you did not gain weight and need to do  alterations. That would stink. My sister called Darcy yesterday to see if she could get in to see her in the next few days to get fitted for her BM dress since she is in town. I hope she gets back to her and can get her in:) I'm excited to check out what she has in her shop. How long is your dress going to be there?

I think Darcy does fittings on a few of the weekdays and maybe on Saturday.  If you don't hear back from her by 6 this evening, I would try to call her again.  My next fitting is on the 19th and then it will stay there to be pressed and I will pick it up the day before the wedding. :)

Yea, alterations were more spendy than I'd expected, too, but I'm having all this done:

    - halter neck sewn together
    - hem evened out (one side too long, the other too short - weird, I know)
    - lace/beading applique removed and reattached lower so the hem can be lengthened on one side
    - 6 point French bustle added
    - letting out at the hips
    - ta tas added
    - cleaning
    - steaming

It's a little spendy, but she's a gorgeous dress and totally worth it.  Plus, I paid a reduced price for a sample, so overall I'm not out of my budget.

Lol.  Yeah, now that you put it that way where if I factor in that I came in under my budget when purchasing, I guess I'm not so bad after all.  Still kind of stinks, but definitely want it to fit good!

It's sort of a good boo though, no? I mean... dude, I'd pay money to have my dress adjusted so it fits me cause I'm a skinny hot bizatch. XD Totally worth it!

Congrats though! Especially on losing all that weight and moving down sizes. ^^ It's a fantastic feeling and you'll look stunning on your wedding day. ^^

No, it really is. :)  If anything, I would like to be down just 1 more size before the wedding and hopefully the taking in she's doing will allow it where if that is the case, then it will still have enough room to be tightened and not look too funny.
