let's talk music

What are you doing for reception music and what's your reason?

Are your family/friends the get down and boogie type so you're doing a DJ? You're picking an iPod because it's just as effective at playing music and pocketbook friendly? You're live music fiends so you've chosen a live rock band?

I need ideas!

Re: let's talk music

  • We are going with a dj. It was cost effective and one more thing we won't have to worry about at the reception. Our venue has a state of the art sound system that we could hook an ipod or laptop to, but we were afraid of technical difficulties. Lol. A good dj can also read the crowd and play the music everyone enjoys most instead of having a set playlist with an ipod.

  • DJ here too!  I want someone getting the crowd excited and out there on the floor!

  • DJ here too, I added a link on my wedding website and plan on putting a line on the response card to get some music that the guests want to listen to.

  • We're having a DJ and I'm really excited about the company we booked with. They did my friend's wedding in January and the dance floor was packed the entire night.

  • Dj here. Music, next to food, was the most important part of our wedding. Our dj has spectacular reviews as well as didn't break the bank.

  • Making sure our guests have a good time was priority #1, so we splurged on entertainment. We booked a dueling piano's show that I have seen at public and private events. They are energetic, fun and really keep the crown engaged and having fun! they play for 2 hours and then we have a dj for 2 hours. That way people don't have to dance to have a good time, or atleast the people who do stay to dance will be liquored up enough we don't have to work too hard to keep them on the dance floor ;)

  • DJ.  The couple we are using was highly recommended by the venue, and when we met with them, we just clicked.  they've been doing this for 20 years and know how to keep the party going.  Our main concern is making sure everyone is having fun and no one leaves early due to a dead party.
  • DJ.  We have a lot of party people and will hopefully have most of them dancing most of the night!

  • DJ here too. One of the ones we met with suggested about a month or so before the wedding, look at the top 100 or top 40 lists and let them know what songs you like and what you dont. That gives them a good idea of what current music you and your crowd might enjoy. If you want some oldies and goodies, a list would probably be good so they know to play those as well.

  • None of our friends are big dancers and we are in our mid 30s and early 40s so no one goes clubbing anymore or dances at any parties so...iPod with DJ app and an amp speaker we got at Costco that cost $140 that comes with a microphone and a 12 hour battery.  We are using it at our outdoor ceremony so people can hear us and volunteered a friend to do intros.  The app allows you to have different music for different events-cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, etc. For us, we wanted good background music for talking and hanging out with the occasional moments of busting a move.  A DJ just wasn't something we felt was worth the cost.  Just depends on your priorities.  I think any DJ money went into the booze fund for us!
