Wilshire Grand - Loft 350?

Has anyone seen the relatively new event space at Wilshire Grand? As in previous posts I've made it kind of clear that I want to steer away from the traiditional banquet hall and have something just a little bit different. Has anyone seen the loft/lounge space at Wilshire Grand? I feel like it could be the best of all worlds, having a wedding at a hall that doesn't at all feel like a hall. It's tough to get up there right away for a visit because I'm in Philadelphia so any thoughts and insight are welcome!

P.S. I'm also looking into the 201 Supper Club, West 5 Supper Club, and blank spaces like the Women's Club of Glen Ridge and Loft 8 at Lackawanna. Pretty much running the gamut if anyone has thoughts on those spaces as well =) Have a great weekend ladies!

We're looking for the same kind of vibe for our reception :) I haven't seen the Loft in person yet, but I love the few pictures they have on their website. I received a quote from them yesterday. This was for a September 2012 Saturday evening wedding... He told me it's $2,000 to rent the space, and the catering prices start at $100 per person for a sit down dinner, $85 for a cocktail reception. I'm also interested in the Womens Club of Glen Ridge, and yesterday I just spent a little time looking at the websites of all of their recommended caterers. I haven't contacted any of them yet, but I'm going to contact some of them today. One of them, Events by Jodi, also has another space at you might like, the Loft in Montclair. Www.njeventspaces.com. I'm going to contact them today to get a quote for both the Loft and the Women's Club. I'll let you know what they say!

Hey... For some reason I can read pm's but can't reply to them on my iPad. Yes, if you can send me info on some other places that would be great! Thanks a bunch! And take your time, no rush :)

Sounds good, it will give me a break from going cross-eyed looking at magazines. I'll be in touch tonight. Have a great day!

I saw the Loft in person...it is a decent sized space. It is disconnected from the rest of the Wilshire space...so it is in a quiet area of the building if you are looking for privacy.

I'm in the same boat! I did some research last night and came across the Newark Museum. Waiting to hear back from them. I also looked at the James Ward Mansion but their rental fee was a bit high - I believe it was $5,000 and you still had to pay for the catering, etc.
I did a lot of restaurant research in Hoboken/Jersey City if you were interested in any of those.

Also - can you tell me about the 201 Supper Club? How many people can they fit?

I've seen the Loft in person as well.. it is definitely a unique space.. It wasn't set up for a party when we saw it, so it was difficult to get a good idea of what it would look like.. but the Whilshire Grand is pretty nice overall, so I'd definitely check it out.

Great Feedback, thanks! I haven't seen the 201 Supper Club yet, I actually just e-mailed the contact this morning. Their website doesn't really offer much insight as to the venue itself and I tried to google map it this morning to see what it looks like from the outside...vain, maybe, but something I'm really conscious about.

I definitely do want to check out the Loft at 350, I was weary about doing a cocktail hour and reception in the same room for transition sake, but really I don't see what the big deal is...maybe have a cocktail hour and do introductions during that time and have a first dance at some other point. Haven't really worked out the logistics yet and won't until we have an actual venue.

I like the Newark Museum as well! The pictures are beautiful, same with Morris Museum....I have to call both this weekend, if you guys get any info from them and can pass it along that would be fantastic!

Mcjays - have you been in the James Ward Mansion? I was there last weekend for a bridal show and was a little off-put by the design aesthetic...maybe we didn't see the entire facility, but it seemed a little weird for traffic flow and the spiral staircase wouldn't work for some of our guests including my own mother who has serious anxiety issues. $5,000 seems a lot to use their space!

I didn't go to the James Ward Mansion but when I spoke to owner I knew it wasn't for us just by the hefty rental fee and still having to get a caterer.

Maybe you would like Michael Anthony's in Jersey City. They have a big private room and it has exposed brick.

We also looked at The Embankment in Jersey City which I liked but now we have too many people. You could do a restaurant buyout and it was really reasonable.

Are the prices for the Loft 350 the same as for the regular banquet rooms?

I didn't really get into too much detail with John over the phone, I wanted to set up an appointment to take a look and get it all out on the table at one time. I'll let you know when I hear anything =)

Rebecca - I don't know why I didn't think of it before but we did look at Harborside in Jersey City. It's an office building lobby but they rent it as a wedding space and it has a view of Lower Manhattan.

Do they have their own caterer or do you bring one in yourself? I have them on my list but hadn't contacted them yet. How are they priced?

Wait scratch that, it's harborside creative catering. I do have them on my list and received a quote from them yesterday, haven't really had a chance to look it over yet though.
