Skyping my wedding

Since my Dad's health has taken a turn for the worse, my Mom and Dad can't make it to my wedding.  And my brother and his wife, are strapped for cash and cant make the trip.  (The wedding is about 800 miles away, where I live)...so because of these situations, I am looking at Skyping my wedding.  (I really hope it works).  What are your opinions on this?  Or do you have any other suggestions?

Re: Skyping my wedding

  • I think its a lovely idea...I'm sure they will appreciate it too!!!

  • I think that is a fantastic way to have them there!
  • I hate to read that health and finances are keeping part of your family away. How disappointing! I hope that your Dad begins to recover quickly and thoroughly.

I love the idea of skyping, I have no input on the logistics, but love that you thought of a great way to share your day!

  • Depending on your and their internet connections it might cut out, or be really scattered. It might be better to record the wedding and then upload it to Youtube as a private video.

  • I think it's a great idea!

I also agree with pp that it might be a good idea to also have someone take video so that they can watch it again later in case the Skype cuts out.

  • Thanks for the ideas of the video...we were going to set up a camera in the back on a tripod and record it, and I hadn’t thought of the private YouTube video!!!!!

I really want them here but I totally understand why they can’t come.  And if I had the extra cash I would fly my brother and his wife up here.....but it boils down to just not being able to afford the tickets to fly...time off work, etc...

mmmendi, unfortunately, my Dad won’t get better, he is in the early end of the late stages of Alzheimer’s.  Mom just recently had to put him in a nursing home

  • I'm so sorry about your dad.  My grandfather has Alzheimer's disease too.  He was diagnosed 12 years ago, before he even got to enjoy his retirement.  My family has been through the ups and downs of this terrible disease and I know exactly how you feel.  My grandfather's been in a nursing home for 5 years and won't be at my wedding either.  He will definitely be missed.

You and your family will be in my thoughts <3

  • That is a great idea.  When FI's mother was first diagnosed with cancer we thought she might be in the hospital for the wedding.  As it turns out the surgery is scheduled for next week, but we were going to skype our ceremony so she could watch it live too.  It's a very nice idea.

  • We are also skyping in my FI's relatives from the UK and my videographer is going to stream it live on his website if the internet connection is good enough at the venue. He's going to put it online if the internet is being dumb that day. I think either way loved ones who can't be there will appreciate the effort wether it's live or after the fact.
  • I am sooo sorry to hear all that. I think Skype is a great way to have them at your wedding. :

  • We are going to video ours to share on youtube because there is no internet connection at our venue. Honeslty I like google+ better than skype for videoing.

I would do this. Skype isn't very reliable especially with internet connections. Maybe have someone tape it that day then do the youtube the next morning?
