Color help again

So, last time I posted about colors, you ladies were so helpful so I'm reaching out to you again. I STILL am having a hard time choosing colors. Everytime I talk to someone about it, they always ask what my favorite color is. My favorite color is blue. I never thought I wanted to do blue dresses though because I don't really like blue flowers and don't want anything dyed. Plus, my mom had like a tourqouise blue for her wedding, and I didn;t want to look exactly like hers (even though it was 27 years ago.) So, here's my newest thought, and don't be afraid to shoot me down if you don't think it works because I am looking for 100% honesty, just like last time. (Remember, I posted about the coral/pink and you guys pointed out it doesnt go so well. And I agree, you guys were right.)

I am thinking like a cobalt-type blue, something bright not really navy for the BM dresses, and then going with hues of hot pink and yellow for flowers, maybe some white in there if need be. I really love the bright flowers, but if you guys think something else would be beter, I am open to opinions. I am getting desperate and stressed because I just want to have that final vision you know? I also am not crazy about using gray dresses because I have had 3 friends get married in the past 2 years who used gray, and while it was gorgeous, I want to be different from them. Thanks for your help.

My colors are navy blue & fuschia, with accents of sand and light blue. I think picking colors on the opposite of the color wheel really pop together if you do it right. I am thinking of navy blue bridesmaids dresses with pink flowers. A bold dark color with a pop of a bright, fun color really excites the eye, in my opinion. I was thinking of doing a more subdued light color palette but I want to do something different, where people say," WOW, that wasn't a boring wedding!" .

Do you have a wedding theme? Mine is a beach/nautical theme, but the pink paired with the navy makes it a little more fun and "chic", I think. Have you checked out this website? http://www.theperfectpalette.com/ It really helped me narrow things down when I was desperate to have a final vision as well that was uniquely me. And rememeber, it's YOUR wedding, so you don't have to have the flowers match the dress if you don't want :)  You can do anything you want! The color pairing is key, and I really think that 2 very different colors that complement each other look the best.

    Good luck!!!

  • Colbalt blue, hot pink and yellow are so in right now. I wear them together with a neutral base all the time. You should definitely do it! They all need to be bright though or it work as well, but I think those are great colors and will make such a fun wedding!

Those both sounds super similar- we're doing marine blue dresses, fuchsia and ivory/light pinks(maybe) flowers, and gray/silver shoes.   I think cobalt with the pink and yellow would look stellar!  I had the opposite problem- I love pink but didn't want to stick all my girls in it.

  • I also think that choosing colors from the opposite end of the spectrum is a great idea. I personally would choose more yellow to go with the cobalt blue because I think they go well together. The pink and the white can be used to break up the yellow. I think altogether it would look beautiful. You could also try using a lighter pink with yellow and white instead of hot pink. Look at lots of pictures. I had to look at lots of pictures when I was thinking about my bouquet. I was getting quite frustrated because I couldn't figure out what type of flower I wanted. I finally found a picture that caught my eye...a bouquet of carnations and roses. Like PP said do what you like.

Good Luck! Let us know what you came up with..we would love to see it!

  • Blue, yellow and pink (a shade of red) are a triad color scheme.  Pairing these will make a bold statement so you may want to apply the 60, 30, 10 rule (one color is used heavily, the other as a strong accent and the third just for tiny pops)

This is a website I used to give to students to keep as a quick reference.

But if it makes you feel any better, I have been in interior design for almost 13 years and I can not decide on my colors.  I am about to rip my hair out!  But last week I went to NY and picked out colors for my clients 9000 sf house in less than 2 hours!  I have serious issues.  I am definitely going to check out that perfect palette website.

  • I agree with the PP. If you love blue, I think doing cobalt blue dresses would be nice. I would consider doing different accent colors though, I do like the pink, but I think all 3 would be a little much since they are all such bright colors. What about turquoise and coral together?

Ahhhhhh!!!  This is where I am stuck.  I love Navy, Aqua and Coral but I also love Navy, Aqua and Kiwi, but I also love Navy, Kiwi and Pink.  And then I was going through fabrics today for a client and saw a pattern I love with Navy, Lilac and Kiwi.

  • Thank you sooooo much ladies!!!!! You are always such a big help when it comes to questions like this. I am feeling so much better, and a little excited, that I may have found my colors. I hope I can find a cobalt blue dress I like, because I really think I am liking that the best, and then I'll match my flowers to it. I probably will do what you girls said and pick either the pink or yellow, and use the other one as the accent. I definetly see bright for my wedding and I want to pop and stand out. I will keep you posted, and let you know what I decide for sure when I go BM dress shopping in the next couple months. I knew I could count on you guys.

And those of you who posted the links, thank you so much, I'm checking them out right now. :)

  • cili: I like the Navy, Lilac, and Kiwi most :-)

OP: I love your color scheme you have chosen, I almost did royal blue myself but only changed it really because I though it was too blinding for my invitations since I had the background blue (stupid reasoning, i know I could have just changed the invites, but I really liked the way they looked with blue lol, but I am having a barn wedding and also figured bright blue might be too much) so instead I am doing navy and yellow with hints of gray and white.

The only worry I might have is having two bright contrasting colors.  I personally would prefer to only incorporate one of either pink or yellow, BUT you can probably do both if you tone one down a bit in either quantity or shade (meaning do the 60 30 10 rule mentioned above or make the pink a very pale shade against the yellow)

  • I saw your pins of the cobalt blue on pinterest and I think all three colors would be great together. I really like that blue - turquoise is always popular and navy is a big hit now, but that tone of blue is gorgeous!

I have 3 colors: tangerine and fuchsia are my main with an accent in lime. So you could do two as a main cobalt and pink and use yellow as an accent. Just a thought!

Thanks, yeah right around the time I posted this I went a little pinterest crazy with blue dresses because I wanted to remember the color I saw that I liked and keep all my ideas. I use pinterest to remember everything wedding related I see that I might want to do, lol. I'm glad you guys all liked the cobalt blue so much! It is making feel really excited/positive about it. I feel like that color would look good on most skin tones too, so that is nice. I definetly think I'm going to take all of your advice and go with the cobalt blue and either the pink as the 2nd main color or the yellow. Just not sure which I like better yet, but at least I'm getting there. I'll use the 3rd color as the accent. Thank you guys so much, I hope this pans out and I don't change my mind again for the 100th time. Blue is my favorite color, and that's what people keep asking me, so I feel like it's a sign, lol. I just hope I don't have a hard time finding dress I (and everyone else) like in the shade I'm looking for. That'll be my next hurdle, lol.
