  We really struggled with it.  My in-laws are very well off, and can buy pretty much anything they want for themselves.  In the end we gave them a heartfelt card, a photobook of our wedding, and some Bahamian things we got on our honeymoon.  I also got my MIL a really nice tote (she's a 2nd grade teacher and uses totes like crazy to cart her stuff around), a jewelry box, and a mug that says "Mother of the Groom" for her to put on her school desk.

  Both parents are getting DVDs and also photo albums of our engagement pictures & wedding pictures.

  
  

  For his parents, we're getting his dad a nice watch & mom a necklace.

  
  

  Since my parents are contributing a huge amount to our wedding, we're getting them a fabulous night out. I got them tickets to the NY Philharmonic, a gift card to a nearby restaurant & prepaid parking. They've always wanted to go.

  We got my step mom some jewelry and everybody else got gift cards to misc places.  At the reception we had a 2 picture picture frame for my dad his mom that had a pic of us when we were young with them and a poem next to it that is meant to be replaced by a pic from the wedding.

  I got them double photo frames where we will put the invite on one side and a wedding photo on theother. For Christmas next year we'll do photo albums I'm sure.

  For my parents, I found some of their wedding crystal on ebay from an estate sale.  I got them some candle holders - my mom was over the moon since you can't buy the pattern in store anymore.  Something to think about if you're looking for a unique idea, and it wasn't too pricey either (40$ for two candlesticks)

  We are also giving a photo album for each (more pix of my side of the family in my moms and a few more of his side of the family for his parents).  I would also like to do something individual for my dad and his dad.  Still thinking.
