Teaching my FI to dance......

is a very daunting (but adorable) task.  Today we were listening to music on the TV and being silly I tried to get him to dance with me.  Ladies, he needs help.  He dances like an awkward middle schooler at his first dance.  He has no rhythm, and this is just slow dancing.  I feel so bad for him because he is really stressing out over this first dance. He has no clue what he is doing.  It's cute in an awkward sort of way and I love him for trying. He knows how much this means to me.  All I can say is we have a lot of practicing to do!

Re: Teaching my FI to dance......

  • Any plans for 'official' dance lessons? I guess I would fall into the minority here...not only can my FI not dance...but neither can I! Granted, I have far more potential than he does because I will at least move to the beat! Needless to say, our first dance will be FUN!
  • My FI has no idea how to dance. I just gave up on it. Lol we joke about it now, neither of us cares too much about it. But it's definitely adorable. Lol
  • That's the thing.....I really don't care how silly we look, but he is so worried about what other people are going to think.  We really are opposites attract on so many levels lol.  I try to tell him everyone will be looking at me anyways, and to just concentrate on me like there is no one else in the room.  He is so nervous.  He isn't fond of large crowds and is extremely quiet and shy, where I could walk into a room full of strangers and give a speech on a moments notice lol.
  • Haha, I haven't started this task yet. JP knows how to dance in like a club setting, but I told him we were not dirty dancing at our wedding. We have slow danced at weddings before and he does okay. I always try to get him to dance with me in a country bar though and he never does it! lol

My task will be trying to teach him a choreographed dance since we're going to do the surprise dance at the end of our first dance together. We haven't braved this daunting task yet, but we should probably get on it soon!

  • Lol I'm with Britt. My FI knows how to dance. He has to have a little liquid courage but he can dance good. I bet its cute watching him try. He shouldn't matter what other people thing its for yall to enjoy. :) hope he gets better. If not it will be fine great memories to look back on. Jk it will be great. The last thing yall will worry about on that day is how yall are dancing, yall will have so much fun. Keep us posted on how the dance lessons go. :)

  • My poor FI can't dance either. He has a serious case of White Guy Syndrome! He is ok with a slow dance with me but I think that is because I have rhythm. I can't wait to see him and his Mom dance cause they neither one have rhythm. But at least he is willing to try for me so that's what matters.

  • I have a little certificate from a bag of goodies that I got at a bridal show that I plan to put to use.  We have been together 4yrs and danced a lot together back in the day when we went out but not the truly formal type of dancing.  We have slow danced on a few songs in our own groove before and it seemed ok so I think that we will be fine.

  • FI is a musician, so you think he'd have some sort of sense of rhythm, but no... he's just awkward.  We dance in our living room sometime, and he's getting better.  I bought one of those cheesy instructional DVDs from Amazon as a joke, but he wants to give it a shot... I'll let you all know how that goes :)
  • As far as dance lessons go, we live in a small town in the middle of corn fields, so there really isn't anywhere to go for dance lessons.  But hopefully he will make the best of it and be okay, and if we have to, we will pick a shorter song lol.

    Bahahaha!! Rock it!
  • My FI is a satisfactory slow dancer I would say! I've never felt we looked odd before :) However aside from that we are both awkward...I only know how to grind basically so when it comes to any other other song at a wedding I just feel uncomfortable! I mean I can sway and use my hips but it just doesn't seem right ya know!?!?
