Vendor reviews!

Hi, all, I haven't posted on this board in FOREVER, but I wanted to share some vendor reviews with you all...

Caterer: Belle Fete (Brunswick), bellefetegroup.com: A+
I don't even know where to start on how awesome they were.  People were constantly telling me during and after the reception how great Lori and her team were.  They were on top of everything at all times, super organized.  Lori is not only a lot of fun to work with, but she really puts an effort into putting together a personalized and wonderful event.  She has a background in design, so she's got a beautiful eye for how everything looks, and like I said, she's fun to work with.  As the wedding got closer, she would call me just to check in and see how I was feeling.  And finally, and perhaps most importantly, the food itself was out of this world good.  Loved my experience working with them, and I highly, highly recommend them.

Photographer: Meredith Perdue, meredithperdue.com: A+
Meredith is an extremely talented photographer with a wonderful eye for details.  She's organized, got me thinking about things that hadn't even occurred to me, and is really, really wonderful at getting great pictures out of people.  It honestly stops feeling like you're being photographed and just feels natural and fun, because she puts you so at ease.  People kept saying to me that they loved her - that she wasn't in anyone's face while still getting in all the shots she needed to, and that when whe was photographing everyone, she really made them feel at ease and was very engaging them, making an effort to show that she was not only pleased to photograph them but also pleased to meet them.  I can't say enough great things about Meredith, and I will post our pics when they're up so you can all see the fruits of her labors.

Flowers: Skillins, skillins.com: A
We bought cut flowers from Skillins and arranged them ourselves; the folks there were extremely helpful and nice, and the flowers were GORGEOUS; furthermore, they have a significant discount on most cut flowers on Friday afternoons, so we were able to get more flowers than I had originally anticipated due to this deal.  My only complaint was that the dahlias were a little wilty by Saturday morning (the day after we picked them up); fortunately, we had over-ordered somewhat, and we were able to change the design ideas for the BM bouquets at the last minute.  I'd say this is a risk you take when you DIY the flowers, though, so definitely over-order if you want to do this.  Skillins also arranges flowers, and their things seem quite pretty.  The staff were all excellent and friendly.

Rentals: One Stop Party Shoppe, partyshopmaine.com: A-
They were great in almost every aspect; my sole complaint about them was that it was sometimes difficult getting in touch with them via email.  Other than that, everything was delivered on time, the tent was GORGEOUS, and everything else lived up to our expectations.

Bathroom rentals: Dave's septic, davesseptic.com: A+
The bathroom trailer we rented was AWESOME.  On the expensive side, but worth every penny - it was a huge hit, and it meant people didn't have to tromp through the house.  The guy that set it up for us was helpful and knew his stuff.

Gotta run, but if I think of anything else, I'll add it!

Thanks for the reviews!  Sounds like you were happy with everyone all around.  Who did you use for a DJ?

    hcorrigan - I am ENVIOUS!!!

chrispygal - we had a friend DJ.  DH used to run his college radio station, so many of his friends know their way around a DJ setup.  Our friend did it, and after the usual events - dinner, toasts, etc - it was kind of a "set it and forget it" thing.  Worked out beautifully, and the friend barely had to spend any time up there DJing.  I made the playlist myself, and just picked the things I knew would fill up the dance floor.

    Oooh!  Another one...

Hair and Makeup: Head Games.  A

The only complaint I have about Head Games is the cost.  But they're good enough that ever since I moved away nearly 10 years ago, I try to get a haircut at Head Games when I'm visiting rather than finding a place where I am.  Anyway, I got my hair and makeup done there, MIL got her hair done there, and our niece, the flower girl, got her hair done there.  Everyone looked fabulous, and the ladies at Head Games are incredibly nice and helpful.

Nails: Captiva salon in Yarmouth: A+

LOVED the lady who did my nails there.  She did a great job, they have an awesome salt scrub manicure or something like that, which I did with a gift certificate from my shower.  This wasn't for the wedding but rather to de-stress a few days prior.  Anyway, the place had literally just opened, and it was a lot of fun - a very girly salon, but Van Halen's "Jump" came on as I walked in, so it was pretty much a perfect combination lol.  (By the way, they don't play hair metal all the time; it was a great variety of really good music.)

Nails, the sequel: Lee Nails in Yarmouth: B

They did a great job on everything, but the folks there weren't super friendly.  Mind you, there were 6 of us, so we were literally taking up a huge chunk of their time (the place can really only comfortably accommodate 3 to 4 customers at a time).  We had booked an appointment, so I promise we didn't just rudely show up with a horde of people at the last minute lol.  Anyway, like I said, they did a great job, and it was fun and relaxing, but had I been there by myself, it would have been no fun at all because the people there were just focused on getting the job done - when someone told them I was getting married that day they just smiled and went back to work - lol.  Fortunately, I was not one of those brides who expected to be worshipped on her wedding day, so I honestly found it kind of refreshing.  Ooh only other thing is I didn't love their selection of colors.  They had great pinks, but I wanted a baby blue on my toes and ended up having to go with an almost smurfish blue instead as it was pretty much all they had.
