Sewn Cups for Busty Brides

Hello ladies,
I was wondering about brides who are VERY BUSTY (I'm talking like DD here). Are there cups that can actually support this... vast amount.... well? I actually never considered this route because generally, "double-lined," "built-in" type bras never work for me but I was curious as to what others' experiences were. I was planning on wearing a strapless but I don't find them super comfortable.

I am also considering the Spanx Slim Cognito Mid Thigh to try to smooth everything out.

FYI, I have the Alfred Angelo gown with the big color train all the way down the back. #1516 in Grape. It is A-line, so the top through waist is somewhat fitted.

Thank you for your help!

Re: Sewn Cups for Busty Brides

  • I am a D cup and I found that many strapless gowns, with their boning and internal corsets, made it so I looked nice and perky and could have gone without a bra.  However, I didn't pick a strapless gown, so I plan on getting a corset and wearing it under my dress.  I also find strapless bras uncomfortable and I'm endlessly pulling at them.  I think the sewn-in pads are more for shaping and adding a little somthing extra, they are not for support.

    GL!
  • I am a G cup while still being a small bride....30G to be exact. I don't trust sewn in cups. I used to work in a bridal store and all the way up to C cups, we'd advise sewn in cups for brides. But they just don't make them big enough.

It really depends on the dress though. I wore a strapless gown and it was tight enough that had I wanted to go braless, I could've. I wore a strapless bra and it was great. I also like spanx, but I didn't need to wear any under my dress.

  • 36DD here- my dress has a corset back, and I'm going without anything.  No strapless bras (super uncomfortable for me, too.  I wish I could wear them like my smaller busted friends do!), no cups.  Do you have the dress yet, or did you try on the proper size in the store?  That should give you a good indication of whether you need anything else or not.
  • I'm a 32DD and I didn't want to have cups sewn into my dress, but my seamstress talked me into it. I love it, I'm so glad that I did.  It makes everything look much more natural.  Plus, I just didn't have a lot of extra room for all of that material from the bra.   You just need to make sure that the waistband of your dress is tight enough, and in the right position, and it should support you just like any other bra.
  • I'm 34H-I and I plan on going braless. I have a strapless dress with a corsette that holds them in pretty tight without having to add anything. If I do wear one, I  foresee a rather uncomfortable night tugging and pulling the extra boning out of my ribs!
  • Wow! Thank you all so much for your quick replies and insight! =-)

I have the dress but haven't had any fittings or alterations yet. It's snug-ish through the bustline and waist (Spanx here I come!) so I thought perhaps with sewn in cups it would be just tight enough to hold up "the girls" properly.

I really appreciate all of your responses! It helps a lot!
