Horrible breakouts..wedding in 2 months and want nice skin ;(

Can anyone tell me some product that may help, my skin from my cheekbone down around my chin is so broke out, and it keeps coming back.  Ive tried so many dif things, ive tried natural organic cleansers..nothing, tried another wash with 10% benzoyl perozide and my face got dried out so bad that it was flaking and i still had breakouts..now im trying clean and clear face wash and witch hazel as an astringent and its not doing anything.  plus i have these little white bumps that look like under skin pimples that wont go away at all.  I just want nice clear skin and I dont know what to do.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Have you visited a dermatologist?

I used to get horrible breakouts too.  Every once in awhile I get a zit here and there, but I started using Clean and Clear Advantage 5% benzoyl peroxide and the lotion and spot treatment that is in that same line.  The spot treatment works WONDERS for me.  It does dry my cheeks out a little, so maybe have another moisturizer on hand just in case?  Anyway, my skin has improved a lot since starting the C&C Advantage.

I think using a product too strong (like 10% benzoyl peroxide) just dries you out and makes your skin overcompensate, hence having dry, flaky skin and still having zits.

Also, there is proactive and stuff out there.  I've never used it, but it seems to work for a lot of people.

Zits can come on because of stress, and at this point in your wedding planning I'm sure you're super stressed, so try to relax some.  Read a book, take a bubble bath (or do both together!), take a walk, something like that.

    Good luck!

I really like the Acne Free product sold at Wal-Mart. It's comparable to Proactive (some studies say it's better). Works great for me but I can't afford it all the time, so I only splurge when a special event is coming up. It's only about $20 for the kit which really isn't too bad at all, but with one income and a child to provide for that money can obviously be spent elsewhere.

ETA: Ditto what PP said about the Clean & Clear spot treatment, it's almost like magic! However the rest of the kit did nothing for me =( You can buy just the spot treatment though for somewhere around $8.

  • I'd also suggest keeping your hands away from your face as much as possible, and DEFINITELY clean your cell phone on a regular basis so all the bacteria doesn't end up on your face. It makes a difference. Good luck!

  • I started using olay microdermabraison 2x a week and Murad 2-3 times a week and I just bought the Clairisonic Mia and use this every day. I haven't had a break out since the first week of December. I used to get one or 2 pimples a week. Being so close to your wedding day you may want to try a dermatologist instead.

  • Take more water, get more rest and relax your mind, you might be stree and nervous because the date is near.. :-p and consult dermaotologist for the product that suit to your skin type.

  • Drink lots of water, try to take in a lot of fruits and vegetables, and eat clean in general. The cleaner your diet is, the less toxins your body will be trying to get rid of (And the less purging your skin will be trying to do)

Also, jaw line/chin acne tends to be caused by hormones, so the more stressed you are, the worse it gets. I definitely suggest trying to squeeze some yoga into your schedule-even if it's just 30 minutes a week. It's amazing what even a little bit of time spent "de-stressing" will do for your skin, as well as the rest of your body!

  • You really should just visit a dermatologist. With your wedding so close, this is no time to experiment. That said, I was you two months ago, and my face is completely clear now by taking the steps below:

One thing that worked for me was getting clindamycin gel for my face. It kills bacteria that causes acne and works really fast. You can either get it with a prescription from a dermatologist or buy it online from a place like alldaychemist. I would stop using face washes with active ingredients. Get a neutral one like Cetaphil that will not strip your skin of moisture. Also, check to see if your witch hazel has alcohol in it. If it does, stop using it! It will only strip your face of moisture, causing it to produce more oil and more breaks outs. Either buy a toner without oil or another toner (like the Stridex pads in the red box) without alcohol. You may also want to look into a mask like Queen Helene Mint Julep (it has sulfur, which fights acne).

  • I use proactive and love it. I have been using it for 6 year now and would not change to another product. It did dry my skin at first so I used it every other day until my skin could handle every day. I also noticed that when I tan my skin has a smooth and clear look to it. Good luck.
  • This may sound a bit odd, but hear me out.  I use honey as a face mask once a day.  Yep, straight honey, you read it right.  You just smear it all over your face, leave it on for an hour (or more if you have the time) and then rinse it off.  Honey has antibacterial powers and it's wonderfully moisturizing.  (Economical too!  :D)  I've been using it for about a month now, but I started seeing results after a week.  My skin is smoother, softer, and has less zits.  :)

  • I have had some skin issues too... Recently I went to a salon and the woman told me to try cosmetix products it takes about 2 weeks to being working but it's the clearest my skin has been in years!
  • 1. see a derm
    2. use a different pillow case every night. That area of your face is exposed to the oils in your pillowcase when you sleep. I heard it helps.
    3. follow instructions from derm.

I used to have moderate acne, but I started using the regimen at Acne.org.  It basically consists of washing with a mild soap and applying  plenty of benzoyl peroxide in the 2.5% strength twice daily.  The 2.5% won't dry your face out like the stronger versions of BP, but will kill your acne.  The website does sell skin care products, but they also have a list of reccommendations for products that you can buy in a drug store.

    Just my two cents!
  • Thank you so much for asking this question!!

I am in the exact same boat, wedding in April and ever since December I'm breaking out like mad.  It's pretty stubborn and ridiculous stuff!  I won't even say how many different products I've tried, it's probably making my skin even worse.  So it's definitely time for me to stop fooling around and see the derm.

Great tips by the way, I will be using some of them.  Ladies you are fantastic! :)
