fitness center, central jersey

Just got back from Australia! Wedding is in January.. need a gym! Any recommendations for central/north jersey?

I'm temporarily living in Branchburg (near Bridgewater, Flemington, Somerville...) but will be relocating soon, to another central/north jersey area. so flexibility of the fitness center would be good. (e.g. a chain with lots of locations!)

p.s. I'm a real tight fist... and currently unemployed being I just moved back Sunday! so something "affordable" is ideal!

I was a member of Planet Fitness for a while, and I liked it.

The current commercial says $10 down and then $10 per month (you have to put it on a credit card).

i go to retro fitness nothing down $19.99 a month and i pay $4.99 extra each month for unlimited tanning

I go to retro fitness too... however I don't think it's always nothing down. LAst I check for a friend it was a good chunk and they just finished with a special for nothing down. Look for specials. It's no frills- no classes or pool, just the equipment (but good equipment at that) and mine doens't have tanning.

Agree about Retro Fitness. They're just opening a location in Flemington and sign up is $0 enrollment and $19.99 a month. They're doing pre-registration right now (that's why it's free enrollment) and should be open by late October. That's probably the closest one to you, with the next closest being in North Plainfield. Once you join you can go to any location.

I just signed up at the Flemington one last week (we're moving to a new apartment in a month out that way) and I got a free t-shirt! WOOWOO! Haha. Also, I was told that unlimited tanning is $9.99 (didn't ask if that's per month or per year, but I assume per month).

I currently belong to LA Fitness in Holmdel. Was minimal down and $34.99/mo w/ classes and pool. Many people worked out different deals with them so definitely try to negotiate wherever you go.

I joined WOW and they're having a special right now that's $14.95/month for one gym, $19.99/month if you want the added flexibility to be able to go to any WOW location. (When I signed up in August you also had to pay a start-up fee - I think it was $80.)

I'm from Somerville, I used to go to Eclipse Fitness on 22, which was awesome. There's also Fitzone at the Somerville Circle, Exerwise Woman in Raritan, and Powerhouse Gym on 28 in Bridgewater.

Oh fun! :-) Before signing up with them I had checked out EVERY other gym in the area (including most, if not all of, the ones that other girls on here mentioned), but they were all so much more expensive. I think the next cheapest I found was $40 plus an enrollment fee (that was Exerwise in Raritan) and I even checked out the Hunterdon YMCA.

Hopefully they open soon! :-)
