  • When I was there I think I did meet some people who were there on their honeymoons. I loved it there, would love to go back someday!

Sure! I went for my brother's destination wedding there. Lima was such a great city, your dollars go really far and they love Americans.  Its not going to be so romantic going to Machu Pichu, its a hike- plane then train, etc. but what an amazing country! My sister-in-law is Peruvian and they are just great people!

We thought about it, but the weather in Peru isn't great in the fall.  So we went elsewhere, but we're planning on going to Peru this summer instead.

It's supposed to be amazing.  Whether it's the kind of place you want to go on a honeymoon depends on what you're expecting to do on your HM.  If you want to see ruins and old churches, and generally be more active, Peru is probably great.  If you want to lounge around your luxury hotel and occasionally go to the beach, why bother going so far?
  • mica is not correct. Their summer starts in fall. Our summer is their winter. Trust me, I got sunburned in November!

Actually, their rainy season is November through March, so if you want to do Machu Picchu and not be rained on the whole time, they recommend traveling to Peru in June-August.

You can get sunburned all year round, even if it's not warm or sunny out.

  • First of all, you can go wherever you want for you HM. It doesn't matter whether or not you've heard of someone else going there already.

Second of all, Peru is a great country. I didn't love Lima, but it's got enough to do for a day or two, and Machu Picchu is amazing. I haven't been to Lake Titicaca yet but hope to go someday. Machu Picchu can be done more on a budget or by staying in luxury hotels, and you can do one of the multi-day hikes to get there or just take the but from Aguas Calientes to make it a day trip, depending on how much adventure you're up for. Peru also has some delicious food - I just read an article that they're asking UNESCO to make their cuisine an Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Reilly, since Mica mentioned "fall" without saying whether she was talking about northern or southern hemisphere fall, there's no way you can say she was wrong. The only thing you could possibly accuse her of is of leaving out that clarifying information.
  • Peru is amazing, the history, the culture, the people. I went with a Church on a mission trip so we stayed in group bunkbed community bathroom style housing for most of our trip so I can't comment on the accomodations. We did visit Lima Cuzco and Macchu Picchu (there is a hotel right at the top of Macchu PIcchu that the leaders of our group stayed in on a personal trip). I think it would be an adventure and a great bonding experience. I always said that I wanted to go back with my future husband someday, I think we will but it was not the kind of trip we wanted for our honeymoon.
