October 2012 Weddings

Good news, a check, and some changes...

We found out the other day that my fiance passed his RN exam! I knew he would, but it is so much better to have it in writing. :)

However, having been engaged since July of 2010 and having our Oct. 13th date set the whole time, I think we were a little naive about how the timeline of money would go. We sat down yesterday and looked at everything and decided that we should really scale things back a bit as we do not want to go into debt over the wedding.

Which brings me to the check and changes.... We went to order our rings yesterday and instead of the half-eternity ring that I wanted, I am getting a plain white gold band. It's a big change (going from a $2500 ring to a $200 one) but I really am happy with the choice. I think it will suit me better, and we can always upgrade later. Plus, that's a lot more money that I can put to something else.

We also decided that instead of going to Europe right after the wedding (which, coincidentally is six weeks after I start school and therefore pretty ambitious time-wise), we are going to take a mini-moon to old Quebec and go to Europe in the spring.

All in all, these are pretty major changes for us but I am very happy... and so proud of my honey for passing the licensing exam!

  • Congrats to your FI! That's awesome that he passed his exam!  Good for you guys for being realistic money-wise and scaling back.  Also, congrats on the check!
  • Congrats to your Fiance!! We made a few cuts as well, nothing that can't be done or changed later!

    Congrats on your check too!

  • Congrats to your FI. He must be so excited.
And congrats to the both of you for scaling back. I know it can be tough to make those decisions.

  • Congrats to your FI!! I think you and your FI made the best decision. We figured the same thing, we don't want to go into debt over a wedding, so if we can't pay for everything by wedding day then we either need to rethink it and go cheaper or nick something else. It is tough to do, but it's worth it in the long run. Congrats on all your checks too!!

  • I think you made the right decisions too.  FI and I aren't taking a honeymoon right away either...we'd like to go to Europe (Italy) too.  We just don't have the money for it right now, and I'm finishing up my Ph.D. so we're waiting too.

<div>Yes... it was a tough decision. We were going to spend two nights in France (Paris), two nights in Belgium and two nights in Holland.</div><div>
</div><div>But to be honest, I was even thinking today that it might just be too busy. I think a nice drive to Quebec (about eight hours from our city in Ontario) after all this wedding craziness is just what the doctor ordered. We have the best roadtrips together -- LOTS of singing lol I'm super excited.</div>

  • Congrats to your FI! I just passed mine in June so I know the feeling! The wedding will still be beautiful and you get a wonderful roadtrip to make memories on. Some times I think those roadtrips turn out to be more fun than a planned out vacation...more sponateous fun and you get to tell stories on the way there. It will be a great time to reflect on your wedding and start your life together!
