Wire hangers

I started my first DIY project last night. It was fun, but could of gone better. I used a 20 gauge wire, but I need something ticker, it was way too flimsy and you could see every where I touched it. Going to stop at Home Depot tonight and get some more.

Anyone ever do some?

  • oooo ok lol my image was wire coat hangers lol  yea they look hard.  i would use heavier guage wire.  if you go to HD or lowes go hardware dept and they will help you.
  • There are many people on etsy who sells them. My photographer shot a ladies wedding who makes these and I plan on having her make me one. It's a super cute idea!

  • I did them.  I think I might have used 20 gauge or something that semed flimsy so I wrapped two extra layers around the names.  Here's a pic and the website I used with instructions:

I actually did some last month, also used 20 gauge floral wire from michaels, the first one was a disaster but after I got the hang of it, it went well. The trick is to be as gentle with it as possible.. and gluing them into the drilled hanger was a fiasco all it's own, make sure you buy a drill bit that is larger than the wire to make sure that there is enough room for the hot glue AND the wire.. mine wasn't big enough and when I went to stick the wire in the hole after applying the glue, it wouldn't go in, and it hardened before I got the wire even remotely in the hole...

That's a good idea. Never thought of that. What are the little cards under the hangers.

I'm going to buy 16 gauge wire tomorrow, I didn't get the chance to go to the hardware store.

It was a little heavier that way but I somehow managed to write the names upwards so the weight brought them to where they should be.

The cards are notes to each girl saying what they mean to me then asking if they'd be a bridesmaid.

12 is thicker than 20, mine turned out perfect and did not need to be doubled. they even have a few other colors than just silver.

I'm pretty crafty.. but like I said it does take practice it also helps to google personalized wire hangers to get an idea as to how people shaped their letters. 1 roll from michaels got me about 3 names, I'd still get 1 extra roll and just practice as many letters in name as you can. and whatever you do do not use any tools to help bend the wire, it puts dents and other nicks and crevices in the wire, just use your fingers and take breaks because they will start to hurt.

I'm pretty crafty and love to DIY and these intimidate the crap out of me. I'm definitrely spending the $14 to get one on etsy.
