Fitting and a bustle Question (PIP)

I'm now up to 4 fittings....but my dress is almost perfect now!  They didn't hem it enough one time and have redone the bustle twice.  Now they just need to take the sides in and I should be good!  So my question is my bustle drags on the ground and is not up all the way.  They said that is normal, but I can have it fix if I want.  What do you guys think?  Should I have them get it off the ground a little more so it is just barely touching....not dragging?

Re: Fitting and a bustle Question (PIP)

  • Personally, I would not want it to drag.  I picture people stepping on it when you're dancing!Your dress looks gorgeous!
  • Thank you!  I was afraid I would trip on it myself when dancing...I didn't even think about other people!

  • I agree with PP- mine touches the floor a bit (she said it would probably get dirty), but it definitely doesn't drag so that anyone (myself included!) would trip on it.  I'd have them try to take it up a bit more.  Gorgeous dress, by the way!

  • I agree. I wouldn't want it to drag all night. People will step all over it and it will probably rip.
  • I agree as well.

  • I agree with PPs. I wouldn't want it to drag and to be honest, I've never seen one that does. Isn't that kind of the point of a bustle? To make the dress more manageble & to keep it off the ground?? :)

  • mine hits the floor enough so that i can't walk backwards without stepping on it.  i was slightly irritated about it but that was my 5th fitting and i just wanted it to be over.  it looks nice, so we'll see how it goes.

    This!!!

  • Mine doesn't touch the ground at all. I asked her to bring it up to be even with the rest of my dress. I didn't want it getting muddy.
  • I agree with PP.  Mine is just above the ground when it is bustled.  I didn't want to risk it being stepped on and getting dirty.  I am getting married in Vegas so I will be doing alot of walking so that makes a difference.

  • Mine def goes to the floor, but it doesn't necessarily drag at all.  Looking at your pic, I think you should def have the bustle taken up just a smidge more.  With all the train on the gound someone is bound to step on it.  What kind of bustle do you currently have?  It look like a standing one-tie bustle.  I have layers all over my dress, too, and I decided on a 3-tier french bustle.  This brings some of the volume up higher so that it flows with the layer, and there's not such a big chunk (for lack of a better word) dragging on the floor.  Have you tried something with multiple tiers?  Judging from your train, I think that would look stunning with your dress.  Good luck!

  • I agree with previous post.  I would def. have them take your bustle up.  It looks like it is dragging too much.  You and everyone around you are going to be stepping and tripping over it.  Like previous post said, kind of the point of the bustle.

I would also look at the french bustle.  That is what I did and it did take up a lot of the bulk of the train so that is all flowed really nicely with the rest of my dress.  Try a french and see what that does for it.

    Your dress is beautiful!

  • mine is off the floor, I had nightmares of my heels getting stuck in the lace on my dress or someone else's for that matter.  I'd bring it up just a bit
