What Books Are Good For Newly Engaged?

I just got engaged three weeksa ago and I've been looking for books about wedding planning but I'm so tired of the typical books. What books would you recommend?

I also want to create my own wedding planning binder but need inserts to go inside. Is there a site that will provide what should go inside?

Re: What Books Are Good For Newly Engaged?

  • Honestly.. you're going to laugh, but this book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Grooms-Instruction-Manual-Owners/dp/1594741905

It's for men, but it was my favorite planning guide out of the several I got.  (Actually H's best man gave it to him, and I stole it)  It was written for men, so it's simple, no-nonsense, and very very funny.
  • I love "the Idio's Guide to Planning the Perfect Wedding" it's simple and easy to understand.

Honestly though I've found websites, and especially message boards to be more useful than any book.
  • THe only book I bought was the Wedding planning book from Target. It was AWESOME! It had everything perfectly sectioned with check lists and explanations of different etiquette, things to consider, questions to ask vendors, etc. It was very thorough without being overwhelming.
  • I bought "The Brides Book of Lists: Things to do and Questions to Ask" by Amy Nebens (?). So far it's been pretty helpful, but I haven't seen anything in there that isn't on TK or online elsewhere.

About the binder, I'd think about going digital.  I use Google Docs for my planning spreadsheets and Evernote for idea gathering.

  • nv has a couple awesome links for you to check out!
I personally am not a digital person. I like having things right in my hands, so the binder was great to save receipts and things.... When I have worksheets and things on the computer I always forget about them :o) haha
  • My FI has read like 5 books...  His favorite by far was Groomology... I read a few of the chapters and they are pretty good, especially for the guys (cause there aren't any websites for guys).  There is alot of truth to the book as well as they make it humorous.  I've also been given like a Mrs. Manner's type book that will be helpful as we do invitations and such.
  • Honestly, download The Knot app on your phone and use the timeline.  Then, make a plain binder for yourself with contracts and inspiration photos.

I have a book and find it totally useless.  Information is free online.  Spend your money on more important things.
