i just discovered this wedding board! so exciting!
my first question is a delemia ive been dealing with... do i make my own invites from a kit at michaels or buy them? am i really saving any money on the "do it yourself" version? were working with a strict budget so im trying to use money wisely!

    Hello, I am not to the invitation part of the wedding planning process, but I would assume that buying boxes of invitations at Michaels would save you a lot of money.  Just remember that Michaels ALWAYS has coupons for 40% off, so use those! 

    I also saw that Wal-Mart has some cheap box sets as well.  They had sets of 50 for $20.  They weren't the fanciest ones around, but they would get the job done.

    I think getting the box sets at a store that you just have to print and assemble will save you a lot of money.  If you want something more complex than what they have in the stores and you are creating it yourself you need to think about the amount of time that will go into it because your time and frustration are worth something too.  I've also found with DIY things for the wedding so far sometimes they cost more than originally expected.  But if you are just going to go with a boxed kit (and there are a lot of really pretty ones out there) I think you will end up saving a lot of money and I don't think those are so complex to work with.

    I was going to make my own (not a kit) but came to realize that my perfectionist tendencies would NEVER be happy with what I created and those tendencies would also cause the process to take way longer than I wanted.  I got my invites off Vistaprint.  If you sign up for their e-mail list you will get a lot of offers.  The ones I got though are fairly simple, but modern.  If you want something more fancy, with overlays, bands, etc Vistaprint won't help.

    I am completely making mine from scratch - from cutting the cardstock to gluing and printing - and it will be saving me quite a bit of money, plus I'm able to use whatever paper is left over for other projects. However, it is time consuming and they still won't be the most fancy things ever, but they'll be mine, which means more to me than it being a quick project. I think it's ending up being well under $50 for over 100 invites.

    I used a kit from Michaels and they were absolutely beautiful and easy to do.  We had multiple people ask where we had them done and were quite surprised to find out we printed them ourselves.  We used the "Brides" brand and they allow you to download templates from their website that make it super easy.  Buying these kits will be waaay cheaper than custom ordering some invitations, and using the 40% off coupons are definitely the way to go.  The only thing that was a pain with my kit was tying the ribbons on the invitation.  However, the custom invitations that I was looking at (Carlson Craft, Birchcraft Studios, etc.) all required you to assemble the invitations yourself anyway.

    I used a kit from Michael's.  It worked out really well. It was super cheap.  Make sure you get your 40% off coupon in the paper.  They have one every week I think.

    I bought my kits from Hobby Hobby when they were 50% off. Register for emails from Hobby Lobby and they will send you coupons for percentages off too!

    i took mine to be printed at a print shop on Reynolds road and they really turned out so pretty. and its less time consuming.  only ended up spending about 65-70$ on my invitiations and to have something ordered thur a site or a desinger, i was quoted btw 175-210$. So i feel like i saved some money. But beware of the STAMPS. I did not even think about budgeting for stamps and got a serious wake up call when it was time to mail them out... LOL

    yes... budget for stamps!!! lol  Stamps for the invitations cost me $90.  And don't forget about thank you cards for the shower and the wedding gifts. ugh...
