Guest transportation

Our room block is downtown, we are getting married at Holy Name of Jesus by Tulane/Loyola and our reception is at Pat O's on the River. A good majority of my guests are from out of town so if I can manage to fit it in the budget, I would love to provide transportation from the hotel to the ceremony and then to the reception.

Do you think bus transfer is necessary? What are you planning on doing for guest transportation? Have you gotten buses? If so, how many seats vs. guests? And finally which company did you choose?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I'm just curious as to what everyone else is doing! As always thanks in advance for your advice!

hi friend. I just got done with transportation which was probably the hardest thing to decide.

We are staying at the hilton riverside downtown and are getting married uptown at Matar Delorosa church. I got a limo for the bridal party and  a 32 passenger shuttle bus to pick guests up from the hotel and bring them to the church. the bus is going to make two trips and it is doing the same from the church to the reception.  you get the shuttle and limo for 3 hours so i wanted to take advantage of the time and do two trips.

My reception is at southport which isnt far from the church at all. The bus is coming back at the end of the night to do just one transfer. I had to do it that way to stay in budget. But i plan on calling a cab company and seeing if they can be on call bc the one transfer may not be enough. You probably wont need the after reception shuttle which is great.

I am using royal couch limo on the northshore which was the cheapest i could find and they are so nice and have been great!

also, i am not sure when your wedding is, but mine is in may. A lot of the limo places where charging extra bc its during prom season. This was a big pain! ha! Hope this helps! and happy planning!

We are staying at the Sheraton on Canal, but the ceremony is at St. Francis in uptown.  90% of our guests are from out of town so we got 2 Hotard buses to take our guests from the hotel to the church and then back to the reception. Each bus seats 55, and the buses were around 500 each.  We didn't have time in the schedule between the ceremony and the reception for the bus to make two trips so thats why we wound up getting two buses.
If you are looking for a coach bus, Hotard has been really easy to work with, and the cheapest we could find.
    Hope that helps!

Thanks for all your responses! It is greatly appreciated!

NOLAbrideinDC- I know! It seemed so far away and now it seems like it's right around the corner. Hope your planning is going well too!

lhtm- Just out of curiosity, how many guests do you have total?

mabezen-  We booked two buses when we thought we were going to have 200 guests.  Now its going to be closer to 150 guests, but we decided to just keep both buses.  My wedding is on new years eve, so we wanted to save everyone the hassle of finding parking or having to take a taxi.
