How much to register for?

FI and I created 2 registries this weekend at C&B and Target and between the 2 we have around 140 items. I large number of the items are $15 or less because they are individual kitchen gadgets, and that number does not include things like towels where we need multiples. Also, I think I'm likely to buy a few things myself like the bedding from C&B that I am afraid will be discontinued. The bulk of our items are in the $25-$75 price range. We have invited 130 to the wedding and as of right now there are no plans for showers that I know of. Of course I can always update, but I'm not sure if we registered for an appropriate amount of things. So my question is, about how much did you register for? I'm just wondering if we have a pretty average registry.

Re: How much to register for?

  • People usually recommend 2-3 times your guest list. So for you, it would be more like 300 things. That is specifically because some people will buy several individual kitchen gadgets and give them to you.

However, do you want more stuff? Do your families traditionally give boxed gifts or cash? Do you prefer cash? That will all factor into whether or not you need to register for more.

You can also just keep checking the registry and update it if it gets low.

  • Remember, you can always evaluate after the shower if you need to add anything.
In my circle, almost no one gives gifts at the actual wedding (cash and checks only) so take into account what your crowd is like and adjust from there.
  • Since that number does not include multiples and you do not have showers planned, that sounds fine.

You can always add more nearer to the wedding if you notice that stuff has been bought up. Like Meaghan said, people I know give cash and checks for the wedding, so take that into account.
