Retro and Vintage Weddings

Table numbers and guestbook ideas?

I am trying to come up with some retro table number and guestbook ideas, I have checked out a lot of ideas-
FYI- our colors are black, off white, and cobalt and we are doing an elcectic cobalt vase grouping on the table, our favors are little vintage getaway cars, and we are going for a 50s vibe.
Right now the only idea I have for table numbers are old books, with the worn pages and all, stood up with the table numbers painted on them.  What do you think, any other unique suggestions?
For the guestbook, I have a couple ideas, records (prob 45s), an old story book that FI and I both like, and a typewriter(if we can find one).  I have some other ideas but they don't seem retro enough.  Thoughts on these and new suggestions?
Also, retro flower ideas?

Sorry this is so long! TIA!

Re: Table numbers and guestbook ideas?

  • I really like the idea of having the table numbers painted on old books.  Also, it might be cool to just have typewriter font numbers on old looking paper in a frame?

I love the idea of a retro typewriter for the guestbook if you can find one.

In terms of flowers, I did a little bit of research, and it seems that flowers in the 50s were pretty traditional.  Here are pics of Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy for inspiration:

I hope that helped a bit!
  • i saw a cool idea online that could retro for table numbers - old math problems flash cards. of course this appealed to me because of the fact that i have a bachelors of science in math, but i thought it was pretty cute too! the answer could be the table number :)

as for flowers - im doing a 50s theme too - polka dots included - and i'm planning on doing bright red gerbera daisies. i dont think theyre necessarily retro but theyre fun and really cute :)

  • I'm surprised that the typewriter on craigslist cost more than the one at the antique shop. You could probably check both.

  • Thanks everyone! I did actually find a typewriter on craigslist for $30 and am getting it tonight, it works and everything, and I have the ribbon info! I am really excited- I checked our local antinque store and ebay and the one I'm buying is less than half of the price of other ones!

Divinewillow- I'm feeling a little bit the same way, but I have my thinking cap on!
Graceful- the flash cards are awesome for you, great idea!

    Thanks everybody! :)
  • To save the books - Maybe a book mark with a table number sticking out the top? I used to have a book mark that folded in half over the page and attached with a magnet, so something like that wouldn't fall into the book even if it was standing open.

Considering your getaway cars, I like post-card idea. They could be vintage cards to all the places you'd like to get away to!
