Burger Bar or Buffet?

So i have read that having a burger buffet can be really fun to do.  What is the cost roughly asking per person?  Is it more cost effective than having a sit down dinner or can that be what we serve rather than buffet style?  I love the idea and really want to follow through...any advice?

i say if you love it, go for it! it sounds super fun. i cant imagine it being more than a buffet or sit down. since it is just burgers and fixings. i guess it depends on how "gourmet" you want your burger bar to be.

We are having one of our favorite burger places cater beef sliders (mini burgers) and the cost is only $1 per slider, and includes all the toppings for a build-your-own burger buffet. Instead of greasy, messy fries or chips, we are having fruit and vegetable trays with dips (hey that rhymes!). We love the sliders because it will be even cheaper than burgers ($2.50 per quarter pounder), and the kids can enjoy them, too. I think we will have less wasted food at the end of the night, too... burgers are great leftovers, so I don't think we'll have a problem there.

I think people will get into the 'build-your-own' concept and we're considering making little signs on the buffet that say, "Mrs. Johnson suggests..." and my favorite toppings. And "Mr. Johnson suggests..." and his faves. Something cute like that. I think you *could* do it as a plated dinner, but you'd lose the 'make your own' aspect.

Anyway, if you love the idea, go with it. I have seen some folks that take it 'upscale' and do gourmet burgers, but that's not our style... but there's a million ways to do it.

    Best wishes!
