Wedding Dress Add Ons (Semi-Long)

Hello Ladies sorry to be posting so late just got home from my moms house, well ladies long story short in 2010 I was planning on getting married in September, it didn't happen but happily we are planning again and this time its official. Well I brought a dress back in 2010 and I stored it at my moms house. I just peeked at the dress today and I must say that I no longer like the dress. SMH. Looking at it I don't know what I was thinking it is pretty but its not what I want to walk down the aisle in. But I think it would be ridiculous to spend another 500-1000 on another dress.

This is my dress ladies: http://reviews.davidsbridal.com/7294/6097384/beaded-lace-corset-with-gathered-satin-overlay-style-t9315-reviews/reviews.htm

This is the dress I desire but cannot afford: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3365LU&page=8&pageSize=36&keywordText=&keywordType=All

They are kinda similar but the Maggie has the outside slits ruffled a bit which I think is gorgeous. So my questions are

1) Do you think a seamstress would be willing to add a few ruffles into my wedding dress if possible.

2)Is it possible to add more to the wedding dress to get back the length that will be shortened by the ruffling of the outside fabric

3) is it possible to add a longer train and to add a few ruffles to the train like in the Maggie dress.

Thanks in advance ladies for all your help.

Basically I want to imitate the maggie dress when it comes to the bottom half of the dress.

  • What you're asking for it going to be EXTREMELY expensive, if not impossible. I hate to say it because I know the Maggie is what you want to emulate. You would be spending at LEAST another $500 on alterations and might as well purchase a new dress. Having said that, there are lots of options in this case. You could sell your current dress on a website like recycledbride or oncewed and put that money towards a new or new/used dress.

Here is a link from recycledbride.com for a BRAND NEW Maggie Sottero Ambrosia dress that a woman had purchased but never used. http://www.recycledbride.com/listing/wedding-dresses/maggie-sottero-ambrosia-21#desc

Not sure what size you are. Just trying to show you that there are options and ways to get THE dress.

  • The problem is that the Maggie isn't 'ruffled.' It has pick-ups, which means you can't just add another piece of fabric to achieve the effect. You'd have to have a whole new skirt, basically. FWIW, I think the DB dress is prettier because I can't stand the way pick-ups look.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies and whats so ironic is that in 2010 I absolutely despised the pick up skirt look and now thats what I want. LOL. The DB dress is very prettier I was just hoping I could change it a bit. The good thing is that the DB is a lace up in the back and its still fits me even though I gained some weight.

[QUOTE]I honestly like the DB dress better.  It is classic.  The Maggie dress is over the top. You will not be able to mimic the Maggie dress by adding ruffles.  The fabric is completely different, and the difference in design is huge.

I disagree that the first dress is classic.  Those pleats at the waist pretty much date the dress.

OP, give it a few weeks before  youi make any final decisions.  You can always look at pre owned gowns then
