NWR: Vacation Bible School

Anyone else helping with vacation bible school this summer? I am leading/teaching first graders this summer and can't wait. This will be my first time leading a class. When I used to help out, it was with odd behind the scene jobs. I am nervous but excited to see how God will use me.

I have helped in the past, but recently changed churches so I'm not sure if our church has VBS.  It was always a lot of fun and the kids just seemed to love it.  How big is your church?  I'm wondering if you know how many children are expected in each class.

I'm going to miss it this year!  The one in Kansas is the week before the wedding, and the one at home is the week after.

I usually teach the 3&4 year olds.  At my parents' church, we have about 50 preschoolers, but the church is in a larger city (Sunday morning is ~500) and some of the Christian daycares bring all of their kids to VBS, because it's from 9am-noon.

At my grandma's church, in my tiny county of 5,000, we have about 20 preschoolers, 80-100 kids preK-5th grade.  Theirs is in the evening and while the church is small, most kids "ride the circuit" and attend just about every VBS in the county during the summer, no matter which church it is.

Oh my word I've done this every year since I was too old to actually be in it. None for me this year, unless we find a new home church as soon as we move.

I am not sure exactly how many kids there will be in my class. I am still a "new" member at the church and learning the ropes. My FMIL recruited me to help this year.

Not this summer. :( If I was going home, I would help out again at my home church. But since I'm staying here to work, I won't get to.

Our church did things a little differently. They split kids into groups of 5, but still in the same grade level. So there were like 10 2nd grade groups. Each group had a leader. I LOVED this and it seemed like the kids did too. I really got to know my kids and they got attention that they otherwise wouldn't have if they were just in a huge group.

Emily, kids in our area ride the circuit too. Kind of annoying, but I know for some of them, that's the only love and/or church they get...

I used to help out at my grandma's church. We always led the drama lesson for the day and that was fun. We'd get to show the kids the lesson based on a story in the Bible, in the act of a play. So much fun! I miss it.

I am going to be a Church Camp all summer as a staffer so no VBS for me. I was the person in Charge from 7-10th grade at my church. Because I knew what the kids liked best we had the best turn our under my programs too. But Camp it will be for me which mean I won't be able to post as much for about 2 and half months and miss a lot of your weddings :( So congrats now lol... The cool thing about camp... We have a pool and a High Ropes course! Can't get that at VBS most of the time!

I taught VBS for about 6 summers and LOVED it!  (Until I got a job and now have to work days...bummer).  I usually taught 4 years olds (15-20 kids per class), but I taught 4th graders and 6th graders one summer.   I miss it. :(

I helped in the past while I was in high school and living at home, but I haven't helped out in years. My favorite was working with the youngest group, they were so adorable and so much fun to work with during crafts time and sitting with them during the songs and the message.

Last year I spent two months on a mission trip helping out churches in South FL put on VBS. Sadly since Fi and I are moving right after we get back from the HM and unless we find a new church ASAP, I won't get to help out this year :(

I have to be the party pooper: I've only been to VBS once as a camper! I was raised Catholic and very few Catholic churches had a VBS. I attended one at the local Methodist church. I had a blast!!

I keep telling FI (who's attended many VBS sessions) that I want to help out with VBS when we find a church. It seems like it would be so much fun and very rewarding!
