This weeks stresser....question for Tides Brides

So I am stressing about the cake this week...I don't know I get something in my head and it gets stuck....I am reading bad things about the cake provided by The Tides...when I went there initially Ron said I can bring in a picture of the cake I want and they can replicate it....from what I am reading this is way off..

I've heard a lot of bad things about the cakes (and viennese tables) at the Tides...FI's cousin had her first wedding there and when she found out we were considering it as our venue the first thing she said was "Make sure you bring in the cake!!" apparently hers was lopsided and looked like it was going to fall over.

I would have a cake brought in.

hmmmm...bringing a cake in is an expense that I didn't budget for as it is included with the venue..hmmm something to think aboutl...I don't know....are either of you getting married at The Tides? Jewls when did your FI's cousin get married there?

That was more than 2 years ago...so it's possible they've brought in a new pastry chef.  I just had a friend get married there last August, she brought in her cake too, but it was a specialty cake so that could have been why she did it.

I think Mbcdefg was recently married at the Tides, maybe PM her about her experience.  I hear you about the budget, cakes don't come cheap!

I got married at the Tides last August and thought the cake was fine....it wasn't out of this world, but it tasted delicious!  We had the Viennese hour and it was AMAZING!!!  Not sure who said it wasn't good...but I have never heard anyone say they didn't like the Viennese hour at the Tides.  Honestly, I would go with a plain cake...there is less to mess up.   We had a very basic cake...we did bring a picture in and they did a good job.   It wasn't the best, but for me the cake wasn't that important because there was so much other food.

Kvarrone had a plain cake and had her florist add sugar flowers and it looked amazing!! Maybe if you are concerned about the cake you can do something like that.

My wedding was at The Tides last month ... the cake wasn't gorgeous, but lots of people said it was pretty and it tasted very good. The florist was supposed to put fresh flowers on it but somehow that never happened. And the other Viennese desserts were a huge hit.

Unless you really have your heart set on a really spectacular cake, I personally wouldn't worry about it. The cake wasn't a huge priority for us as long as it wasn't terrible-tasting.

    This...

Everyone loved the Viennese. And like Laurie said you can have your florist add flowers on the cake. Our florist added sugar flowers that I provided. Honestly, if you going to have a Viennese hour then the cake really doesn't matter!

I really think the look of the cake is something that only the bride notices.  I didn't get married at the Tides, but I was horrified when I walked in my reception and saw my cake (in fact it was the only thing that I commented on) and DH had to basically talk me off of the ledge and tell me it was fine! To this day I bring it up IRL and people look at me like I was crazy and say it was gorgeous.

Moral of the story- unless you have money to spare, it's not worth spending extra dough on.

What Tif said is right on.....also, with the Tides, you will go in knowing that they are not known for their beautiful cakes, so do expect it to be out of this world.    Honestly, I never even really noticed the cake that much because I was so caught up with everything else!  I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I am getting married at the TIdes and Ron told me to bring in a picture of the cake and they will copy it but I heard the cakes dont come out great from being on the board so I will have my florist design my cake with fresh flowers!
