what to pay an amateur?

we have asked a friend of ours to do our wedding photos. we have absolute faith in her. we are unsure about what to offer her as a fair price. we don't need tons and tons of photos, and have a reasonably short "must have" list. we want to offer a reasonable price for what we are really getting, but without being overly generous or make an offer so low that it's insulting and hurts the friendship. any advice?

You shouldn't be the one sweating over this.  The person offering the services needs to decide what her time is worth and set the price.  A pro wouldn't ask you how much you're going to pay for his services, and an amateur shouldn't ask either.  Just tell your friend everything that you want/expect and ask her how much it's going to cost.  If it comes in a little high, then feel free to negotiate.

I totally agree with raspberrytart's suggestion.
