thoughts on bridal shows? good place to start??

So i'm looking into going to bridal shows/expos to get help, ideas, and more info on planning my wedding.

I dont know if anyone else feels as stressed as i feel with the whole production of a wedding.! But has anyone gone to a wedding show/expo before and was it any help? I dont want to feel pressured into any sales or anything so im holding back a bit on going to one!

ANy thoughts??

  • I've been to two, you can get some ideas but the some are very disorganized and just really no help. I actually think the knot is better way to look up information as well weddingwire.com

  • I know what you mean. I Would say go to your local ones, meaning I live in PB so I won't go to a Miami. Especially if you just want ideas. And don't forget to bring someone who will reel you back in. No "yes" woman should go with you

  • I've been to The Great Bridal Expo -- that would be your best bet. It's great for information, but beware that even if you sign up and then end up not going (like I did for recent ones - because I was pregnant I couldnt go), you will get phone call after phone call from vendors who are there saying that you were there and stopped by their booth and want to talk to you.

I agree with PP though ... don't go out of your way to go to bridal expos. For me, if it isn't in Broward, and it costs money, I won't go. The only reason I went to The Great Bridal Expo was because I had gotten a code for 2 free tickets ... which they do all the time, you just have to know where to look for the code.

If you really want to go to one this one may not be too far from you!

I have went to one and I don't think I will go to another one....I saw mostly vendors rather than ideas but maybe that's the one I attended (it was free).
  • If you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed and wanting ideas or directions I would consider hiring a wedding coordinator or Day of Coordinator.  They are much more affordable than you think and as soon as I hired mine I felt a HUGE weight lifted from my shoulders.  Planning a wedding is very stressful and a ton of work.  Mademoiselle D and I both recently hired coordinators and can reccomend some budget friendly ladies if you need the help.

I would highly recommend to look into Katie's suggestion. Wedding planning is fun and exciting but very stressful at the same time because we want our days to be perfect. I hired my wedding planners recently and they have been life savers! They are extremely helpful and the vendors they have put me into contact have been giving so many ideas for my Spain themed wedding.
  • Thanks so much for all of the advice! It really is great to hear the experiences you are all going through. I'm so new to the planning and all of that, so i apologize if I sound like I don't know anything! I am assuming that a day of coordinator is only there for the actual day of the wedding and helps put all the final touches together and keeps you on schedule?

I actually just registered for this bridal show called the wedding salon, its next monday at the epic hotel in miami and it looks really beautiful. I was able to register for free with a promo code, so that was my incentive to register! Its about an hr away from me but I figured its worth a shot to go, and I'll be bringing my moh so it should be fun!

If anyone else is interested the code i used was WSMC...thanks again for all the advice :)!
  • June 20th at Benvenuto in Boynton Beach 6-9pm. We went to one there already and it wasnt as bad as the one in Boca at the Hilton.
