19 days away and no caterer

I never signed a contract because we were negotiating what we needed/wanted/could afford.  Now she has upped her prices out of our budget.  I'm facing doing it all myself.  Peanut butter and jelly anyone??  THIS has been the worst part  of all of the planning.

(of course I'm joking on the pb&j, and I know to be super careful regarding what I serve and temps, blahblahblah)

Re: 19 days away and no caterer

  • where is your reception? lots of venues have rules and regulations about using a caterer who is licensed. I would be really nervous about doing the food myself for this reason!  perhaps you could find a local restaurant who would be able to provide a buffet? Around here, Qdoba buffets are really reasonably priced and quite tasty for the price!
  • Could the caterer make something to fit your budget?

Yikes!  A lot of restaurants cater, and when I was looking, they seemed a lot more affordable than caterers, because they don't tack on a fee for everything and anything.  I'd start there if you can't work out something with the caterer.

I was debating DIY'ing the food for our wedding (that is until the guest list got out of control).  I was thinking of doing a pasta buffet with a few different types of pasta (spaghetti, penne, bowtie), a few different sauces (tomato, pesto, alfredo), and possibly even a couple pans of lasagna.  FI teaches at a university, so we were thinking of asking a few of the more dependable students to manage it.
  • Try looking into an Italian restaurant and do a pasta/lasagna buffet.  You can do salad and bread for the side and the prices are very reasonable for large groups of people. Good luck!
