ONLINE SHOPPING---Yes or No???

Ladies, any advice on online shopping? I have no luck in stores, found some stuff I like, but not "the one." I am just so frustrated. Things online appear to cost less, but what about the quality? Please advise ;-(

Re: ONLINE SHOPPING---Yes or No???

  • I'm assuming you're talking wedding dresses. I used to work for an online vendor of wedding dresses. The reason they are cheaper online is because the stores don't have to pay any overhead or any commisions. You must be very careful if you order online, though, there are some that are legitimate stores, however many are stores online are from China and sell replica dresses of designer gowns. More often than not, they turn out to be a lesser quality gown.

Do your research. Find an online store that has a physical store that are verified for selling the manufacturer's gown. If you see a dress that most places sell for $1200, selling for $300, run away.

Some of the online stores I've found to be verified online sellers are: Victoria's Bridal Couture, E Bridal Superstore, Best Bridal Prices and House of Brides.

    Good luck!

  • Read the FAQ on the attire and accessories board.  Do not buy from a chinese knockoff online site. You will regret it.   They are cheaper, but they are basically a seamstress trying to recreate a designer dress.  The quality of the fabric is almost always signifcantly cheaper and often, the beading and lace is out of place.  Some dresses show up half done, with pins and thread in wrong places.

Don't risk it unless you have plenty of time and money.   Keep looking for the one. If you spend some time and you are patient, you'll find it.
  • Try looking at many stores that carry plus size clothing already. They often don't cary wedding dresses in their stores but do on their websites. Like Lane Bryant, they have wedding dresses from many plus size designer brands on their siter site Sonsi. They don't carry every dress from each of those brands though, so if you try and look at the individual companies websites you will find a broader range of dress choices.

  • If you order from Best Bridal Prices, order 2 or 3 sizes bigger than their size charts say you need.  Even after having my measurements professionally done TWICE, and using the size chart for the actual dress I wanted, it came in WAAAAAAY too small.  They have a no return, no refund, no exchange policy, so now I have to lose about 75lbs in order to fit into this f'ing thing - I am LIVID!!!!

House of Brides also has a reputation for HORRIBLE customer service, even on their website.

Try Sydney's Closet - I know several people who have ordered dresses from there, and they were beautiful!

  • Lightinthebox and plussizebridal are both knockoff sites. Returns are next to impossible and the reviews on their site are normally fake.
  • A big "yes" to David's Bridal online. Measure yourself and compare to their size chart and don't go by your street size.
