Wedding on a very low budget

Hi i am getting very stressed and frustrated with trying to do our wedding on a very low budget(1000.00) its very hard to do but due to reasons beyond our control , it has to be this way.Anyways we have a church in oak grove,mo but need a reception place thats super cheap.maybe have about 50 to 75 guests, yes its gonna be a littl wedding and a simple one but a nice one .. i hope.i wished i had the money to spend on our wedding like everyone else has, but i work only part time and take care of my elderly mom. I think i have found my dress , but struggling with that also.would like to have some nice pictures took, if anyone can give me some DIY advice or ideas then we might have a good redneck wedding after all.lolz

I would definitely look around on the budget board. Those ladies have a lot of advice.

Just a couple recommendations that I see a lot. Do your wedding in the early afternoon and you only need to do a light reception afterwards. You can get a really good cake and punch and not have to worry about serving a full meal.

Does your church have a basement or a room you can use? You can also check out Elks' lodges or the like, community center, or a park shelter.

I'm sure others will have really good ideas too.

For pictures see if you know anyone that enjoys photography and has a good camera and "hire" them for the task. You can thank them with a small gift card of some sort or if they are close enough to you they won't mind doing it for nothing at all! And of course just make sure your friends and family are manned with their digital cameras and that they all send you the pics they take so you have a lot to choose from. Sometimes those are the best! Flowers - go silk! Try Hobby Lobby on 50% off weeks. And I agree with PP, do a cake a punch reception, you'll save a ton! You can even do cupcakes and have a small cake made for you to cut.

I'd definitely go with either early afternoon or later in the evening; bonus if it's on a Friday night. Cake and punch receptions are always great, and if you do it in the evening you can DIY other desserts like making a cookie table. Stuff like that can be cheap to make, and it can be good bonding time with any friends or family willing to help you. :)

I'd definitely look into using the church fellowship area or somethng for a reception. Also, VFW halls are all around, and they're very reasonable.

Flowers, either go with silk that you buy with coupons at places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Joann's, or I have a friend who just bought fresh flowers at the farmers market the day before her wedding and tied up small bouquets that day.

Also, check out the budget and DIY boards. All those girls are super creative and understand when you can't spend a lot. Don't worry though- it can be done, and your wedding will be wonderful!

Good luck and welcome to the boards!

What about having the reception at the church or at a local elks club type place? Some city owned buildings are relatively cheap too (e.g. the Sermon Center in Independence). You could have Fazoli's cater for super cheap. A friend of mine had a really cool idea for cake - have different people each decorate a 8-10 inch cake and bring them to the reception on stands. That way it is personal and still nice.

I would shop around for flowers and look at how to guides for boquet making online. Decorations are pretty easy if you check out the dollar store and, like a pp mentioned, HobbyLobby.

123print.com is super cheap for invites. Check out art students or friends trying to start photography businesses for pictures.

1000 might not seem like a lot, but it can go pretty far.

    Good luck!

Making your own invites sounds less expensive, but a lot of times it turns out to be a bigger cost than getting them done at a cheaper place. I would check around and see what you can get at what price first.

Sounds like you're off to a good start.
