Flowers

What kind of flowers is everyone using?  I met with a florist today and she tried to steer me away from Gerber Daisies wich I really wanted but Im curious what other ladies are choosing. (I will be meeting with other florists for sure)

Re: Flowers

  • why is she trying to steer you away from using the flowers you want to use??  doesn't make sense...I would meet with other florists...

We're using calla lilies, roses & hydrangeas...I know there are a couple knotties using gerbera daisies!
  • I wonder why she's trying to steer you away from them? They are so pretty! I really wanted to use peonies, but I am afraid they might not be in season in July. I don't know that for sure. I've been looking into cabbage roses. They are really lovely. I'm going to buy the flowers wholesale and make the bouquets and small arrangements for the tables.
  • our florist said that sometimes flowers can become expensive if it is not in season for that certain time. Our florist also said you pay more for roses than any other flower and they are not worth it. We are using Carnations,Hydrangeas and daisys

  • I'm running to find Julliet roses for my bouquet,
    for Greece,that's a headache..
Then we have white roses, green hydrangeas,
    astilbe, lavender,peach and lavender roses,and
orchid for boutonnieres. And then light green greenery
and moss.We will have kissing balls hanging, garlands
of flowers and 4 centerpieces, for our wedding candles
and outside the church for the stairs.

I don't understand why she would be steering you away.  They are in season from Mid-March til the first frost depending on your region and their hardy plants so they can take some abuse.

We're not having much for flowers but I'll be having hydrangeas, calla lilies and roses in my bouquet, roses for all bouts and corsages and then a mix of blue and green hydrangeas in mason jars and I'm thinking of potted Gerber daisies or chrysanthemums to line the aisle for the ceremony and then re-using them for our outdoor reception area.

  • I have no idea what kind of flowers I'm going to use. As long as they're red, orange, yellow- I'll be fine! :) I am especially fond of calla lilies though. We will find out sometime soon when we meet with her again.

  • We're using Purple Calla Lillies (this would be it if I could afford it, I'm obsessed!), roses, green button mums (they have special meaning in our family), and a few others that I'm not sure of their names. Unless they are really expensive I'm not sure why your florist would discouge you. I know mine talked to me about the calla lillies because they are so expensive but thats the only reason I can think of that someone would tell you not to use them.

  • I'm not sure about our flowers exactly yet either. I really wanted peonies too (they are my favorite) but fyi- I have been informed that they will NOT be available in July :(  Anyways, I have been looking into using a mix of roses and garden roses instead. I also plan on meeting with my florist soon to talk about what exactly I should get. For now I just keep getting inspiration from the photos online.

  • I'm very curious why she would steer you away from the gerber daisies unless it had to do with price??

The bouquets will be hydrangeas and roses.  The BMs will have colorful bouquets (pinks and purples) and mine will be white/cream with touches of pink.  For our centerpieces, different color roses (lavendar, pink, etc.), light green hydrangeas, pink lillies, and a few other colorful flowers that are in season and work with the piece.

GM will have lavendar rose bouts to match the girls, the dads will have white rose bouts, moms will have wrist corsages with maybe tea roses? and FI will have a white rose bout with a little pink to match my bouquet.

  • We are using bright pink mini gerbera daisies, pink roses, mini green hydrangeas, and white accent flowers (either carnations or spray roses), with lemon leaf foliage for the bouquets.

The boutonnieres for the guys will be green button poms with bear grass accents. The boutonnieres for the fathers and grandfathers will be mini green hydrangeas. And the flowers for the mothers and grandmothers will be white spray roses and mini green hydrangeas.

The centerpieces are also bright pink mini gerberas.

  • I wonder why she is trying to steer you away from Gerbera Daisies? Seems odd. Have you checked to see if they are hard to find in your area? I only need one bouquet, mine, it will have Pink Mini Calla's 13 white roses in memory of my little sister. I'm going to arrange my bouquet myself though. We are doing candles rose petals for the reception so we aren't won't need any other flowers.

<div>Yeah, I was afraid of that. I had a sneaking suspicion that they are more of an early summer/late spring flower because I've photographed them in gardens around that time. </div><div>
</div><div>Did you ever see this pic of a cabbage rose bouquet? This is what got me thinking about them. I still have to figure out if they are available, lol. </div><div>

</div><div>If they aren't, I will be perfectly happy with miniature pink and white roses, green or white hydrangeas. Kind of like these flowers that I put together last August (btw, I had them all nicely wrapped in a bouquet for my sister's birthday, but she untied them. The picture is from an older cell phone so it's really bad, but you get the idea of the colors and stuff:</div><div>

I wanted peonies also, but they are out of season for July :( My florist is doing so open roses and cabbage roses for the same effect for much cheaper than shipping them in from Holland .. Which is were I think they are in season in July...
  • I am using gerber daisies and roses, here is my inspiration. My BM will have something similar, but smaller and without white roses!

  • That picture is great!  The lady told me that Gerber daisies were just too hard to work with and don't last.  She kept pushing for yellow roses even when I told her that I wanted to use something other than roses as my main flower.  I think she just had a certain picture in her mind and wasn't listening to my vision.  I've started contacting a few other florists to get prices and set up meetings.

My colors are yellow and blue and I wanted pops of pink just for some extra brightness.  But my bridesmaids are wearing yellow dresses so I wanted their flowers to be heavier on the blue.  Im just excited that it getting closer.

    Thanks everyone for sharing!
  • My florist has told me that I actually will probably be able to get my peonies for July - yay! apparently there are lots of South AMerican farmers who grow peonies year round, and it isn't actually very expensive to get them here.  All of you ladies who want peonies should look into this!

We are also using some hydrangeas, purple cala lilies, lavender roses, garden roses, and lots of other purple flowers whose names I can't remember right now.....

This is interesting. I am starting to get pissed off with my florist. She also told me she "couldn't get" cafe au lait dahlias. I DON'T BELIEVE HER ANYMORE! :(

I am sure it differs from florist to florist depending on their suppliers and where they buy their flowers from...our particular florist gets lots of their flowers from out of the country so getting the peonies shouldn't be a very big deal for them.  She did say that sometimes quality isn't great depending on the time of year and how the growers are doing.
