Wedding Theme - I finally figured it out!

So I know every wedding must have some kind of theme.  On Sunday the FI and I were sitting in his truck listening to his favorite old "racing" songs and a line in the song turned on bright lights:  "The Finish Line"

My colors were already black and white (with a touch of tiffany blue).  He was a dirt track racer forced into early retirement ($$$).  We are going to have him waive the checkered flag after we say "I do" and like they do for military weddings, have the "crossed checkered flags."  I love the idea!!  So excited!

What do you think??

I would find it more appropriate to do this when walking in to the reception. I simply find it tacky to be done during the ceremony. He isn't military.

    Whatever makes you happy though.

agreed - this would be better for a reception entrance, I would find it a little tacky at a ceremony.  But that's just my opinion.

also, you dont need a theme for your wedding - if you want one great, but don't feel like you have to have it.

I also agree that this would be better suited for the reception, IMO.

If you do decide to do the flag during the ceremony, I would write about it in your program, so the guest's understand what is going on.

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

Everyone is going to understand his checkered flag b/c they all know his racing obsession - it is a reflection of his personality.  Now for the "checkered flag salute" that wont be done at the ceremony but at the reception; I did not explain that too well before.

Agreed with PP...you don't have to have a theme, but the reception is a great time to bring elements of yourself into the wedding.  You could have the guests wave flags as you leave the church (instead of sparklers, etc).  You could incorporate racing into the table numbers, cake topper, escort cards or guest book.  I wouldn't go TOO overboard, but a few details here and there would make the wedding your own.

This is only using taxis, but you could really easily use race cars.  The escort card is on the taxi and the taxi is the favor...its pretty cute
