Opinions Please

Hey ladies,

So I had this idea for "cheap" favors. I was going to personalize M&M's in my colors, some with our date, some with a pic of us together, and some with just married. Get some cute little bags and put them on all the tables. So I went through the process and for a 10 lb bag it is $287.99.......how do you guys feel about that price.... too much?????

Also do you think 10 lbs is enough for 100 people?

  • I have always thought that the personalized M&Ms were way way way to expensive.  I personally think that is a crazy amount to spend on M&Ms but if they are in your budget and you really like them then go for it---because even though I think they are expensive they are also really yummy!

That is WAY too much!  Those things are insanely expensive.  FSIL had them as her wedding favors and they looked like garbage.  Nothing was centered and more than half of them were smeared.  I can't fault her, because she probably figured they were expensive enough to look good but they looked like absolute crap.

As for how many pounds, it will depend on the size of your favor bags.  If you want to go this route, buy the bags, get a bag of plain m&m's, and see how much each bag holds.  Based on the weight printed on the bag of m&m's that you bought, you should be able to do the math and see how many ounces you'll need to make 100 bags.

Honestly, though, the ones I've seen were awful and I'd be ticked off if I spent almost $300 on them.  That's $3 per favor.  You can get something MUCH nicer for that price.

You can always personalize half of them, then just buy colored m&m's that are plain in your accent colors that aren't personalized.  This will stretch the amount you have without racking up the price.  (FSIL did this - she did apple green personalized ones and chocolate brown ones that were plain as her accent.)

  • I was going to suggest something similar to ChiGirl did.... just go buy M&Ms ( from a bulk candy store) in your colors. My aunt did this for my cousins shower and it was so cute and really affordable. I have ordered the personalized M&Ms before and wont again because of the price and they do look pretty crappy. Soooooo many of mine didnt have complete wording or our faces looked messed up.. Not worth it.
    Just my opnion.

  • Wow Ladies..... Thank you so much!!! Majority wins mm's are out

I agree, that is very expensive. Have you looked at Oriental Trader? I just got a catalog in the mail and they have some pretty cool things in there.

Also if you like the candy idea, try a bulk food store. I don't know the name of the website, but a lot of knotties have used it to buy bulk candy for buffets and what not. Hope that helps!

  • My FMIL wants to buy the personalized M&M's for our candy table and I told her to just buy us M&Ms in our colors.  The price is ridiculous and yes, I've heard the quality is poor.  Check out Oriental Trading and Exclusively Weddings for some favor ideas...but I do like the candy one (I'm doing a sweets table for a favor, personally).

I'm so glad we had this post. Fi saw an ad and thought they were cool, and so did I, but knowing that the quality is poor deffinitly rules it out. We are planning on doing chocolate chip cookies using a really cute cookie cutter we found at the antique mall. It's a hand doing the sign in ASL for I love you. When I sing in concerts, fi always signs it to me. No, neither one of us is deaf, but you can't just yell "I love you" during a classical music concert...Anyway, my projected cost for the entire project, making 250 cookies, is about $70.

  • The website for the candy that a lot of people use is candywarehouse.com.  They're not cheap, but they have a HUGE variety and their website separates the candy by color if that's the route you want to go.

My favors are 4 Hershey miniatures with various pictures of our destination wedding location.  I'm making them myself and they're going to come out to less than $1 each.  It's time-consuming, though, but I can do them ahead of time.  I did these for my friend's wedding as my gift to her and put 1 photo of her, 1 photo of her FI, 1 of their engagement photos, and the last one had a plain background and a short thank you message.  Would something like this work for you?
