Weight Loss=Major Dress Alterations!!!

Ladies,

In the beginning of Jan I started a weight loss program. As of today, I have lost 15 lbs! I'm so excited about this. I would like to continue on the program for a little while longer but I am worried about how much alterations are going to cost. I have a fitting scheduled at David's Bridal in about 2 weeks but I saw in a recent post that bridal shops usually overcharge? Anyone have any experience with alterations with DB? I think the dress will have to be taking down at least 1 size but should be no more than 2 depending when I force myself to go into maintaining mode. Do you recommend trying someone else for alterations that offer a cheaper price? I saw some of you mention Daisy on the board. Not really sure what to do. Any advice would be a big help!!

Thanks!!

Check out Daisy from a post from below. She is great and works from her house.

    What program are you doing?

I'm going to a weight loss clinic. It's expensive but I love the results I'm getting! For the first time since end of high school/first yr of college I am under 200lbs!! Where is Daisy located in Tampa? Do you think it is a big difference in price from David's? I have no idea what to expect price wise for alterations.

Daisy is right off the crosstown in Brandon. I am in South Tampa and it took me 20 minutes to get there. I have no idea what DB charges, but she does everything one her own in her house. I don't need a lot done, bustle, pulling it up in the front and my straps, and it is $95 cash.

Several of my friends have used Emelina's and raved about her and said she's way less expensive and better than David's Bridal.  I was on a flight and just happened to sit next to a seamstress.  She told me she previously had worked for DB and that all their alterations people are contractors, not store employees.  She said DB just farms the work out to them and marks up the price.

I am def going to look into Emelina's and Daisy. Emelina is a bit closer and is also convienent to my work. I decided to try on my dress just a few min ago since FI isn't around tonight. The last time I put it on was when it came in mid-December. It fit perfectly then and didn't seem to need much alterations...16 pounds gone later...I really see how much I have lost! I didn't think it was that noticiable but I really have! It feels great! Definitely going to need some taken in though! How far before the wedding are you supposed to schedule the fitting?

What weight loss clinic are you going to?

It's called Medical Weight Loss. It's over on Ehrlich Rd. If you have heard of Dr. Garcia, it is the same program he uses but it's a little cheaper here. The website is http://www.medicalweightlosstampa.com/

I had a friend who just got married in October. She had to have her dress taken in (she was between sizes and bought the bigger one) it was hemmed and a bustle was added. She bought the dress at Davids for $400, so she took it back there to be altered. The alterations were $350. Ridiculous!

I'd call the alterations place you choose and ask them how much time they'll need to make the alterations.

I just made a fitting appointment for a week from today at alterations and creations. She couldn't give me a quote over the phone bc they have to see the dress first...makes sense. A couple of my coworkers recommended them too and it's much closer to me than Daisy. Hope it works out, if not I'm calling Daisy!!! Thank you for all the help! You girls are the best!

I'm doing the Dr Garcia plan right now!!  Day 2 for me, excited to see results :)  GL!
Oh yeah, and thread related, Daisy did my alterations and she does great work and is so sweet!  I also bought my dress from DB and never had them quote me on alterations, but I never would after hearing how they mark up.  I liked Daisy because she is independent and her price was great.
