  Your candy container needs to hold the amount of candy you are purchasing per person.  We allotted 1/4-1/3 pound of candy per person as an average.  a 2x2 box would not have worked because it wouldn't have held that much candy and we would have had tons left over.  How much candy are you alloting per person?  2x2 sound very small for this.

  You'd probably be better using some type of bag for the guests to put the candy in.  2x2 box is definitely too small.

  1/2 pound per person is what is recommended.  Your 2x2 boxes will be too small.  You can do the small chinese take-out type boxes or as someone else recommended, the favor bags.

  To add to pp, cost of boxes are usually higher than bags.

  We are using the clear favor treat bags like for bday parties and printing custom labels in our wedding colors that we will prestick to the bags. Inside the bag I am putting a small amount of tissue paper in the bottom for color in our colors. I am also setting out ribbon in our colors cut into reasonable lengths for our guests to tie their treats with.

  We used 16 oz take out boxes.  They were plenty big but we had a crap ton of candy and the kids definitely filled them to the max and we still had candy left over. 
  
  2" box is way too small.  Those are more appropriate for 1 fancy truffle, not a few M&M's.  I would not go smaller than an 8 oz container.
