Myfitnesspal question

I am new to MFP and am really liking it so far! Tracking is much easier than with sparkpeople so I feel like I will really be able to keep up with it this time. question: I have my food calories set for 1,400 and I work out 4-5 days per week. At the end of the day, your total NET calories is what counts towards your weight loss, right? I am trying to keep my net calorie total between 1200 - 1400...even on days I work out. I don't want have under 1200 because I know that can work against you.  I think this is fairly obvious but it seems so easy that it makes me think that I must not being doing it right lol so I just want to double check myself =) My name on MFP is junebug616....feel free to add me

Re: Myfitnesspal question

  • You should always be focusing on your Net calories. On a day you work out, add your excercise and MFP will subtract the calories burned. You want to essentially "eat back" those calories so your total Net will be within your goal. Did I make sense?

  • Yep - I agree the calories from exercise will be included in your net so if you ate 1600 calories, and burned 600 at the gym, you would be at 1000 for the day and would then have 400 calories remaining for the day to be at your goal of 1400 for each day.
  • Does that work for WW too?  My daily goal is 26 points, but I earned 7 activity points today.  Should I be eating those points?

  • I agree with PP- make sure no matter what you're buring that you're still meeting your calorie goal.

  • I have been using MFP for awhile and PP's are right, definitely log your exercise so you can eat back those calories you burned and still keep your net calories within your goal range. If you burn 300 during a workout you get to eat an extra 300 during the day. Just make sure those are a healthy 300 calories. I'll add you the next time I am on.

  • I agree also!  Be sure to eat your exerices calories that you've burned.  The more calories you eat to get you closer to your net calories, the easier/faster you will lose weight.  Your body needs that food as fuel.  Good luck!!
