Reception on a tight budget

Hi Ladies!

I am a young bride (only 22 by the time I get married) and my Fiance and I are on a tight budget. We've been looking for unique receptions sites in the Milwaukee area for about 150 people. If anyone knows of any hidden (and affordable) gems please let me know!

Congratulations!  Where in Wisconsin are you planning on getting married?  I have some suggestions for Southeast Wisconsin, but not sure if that's the area you are interested in.

Milwaukee County Parks have some nice options - especially the South Shore Pavilion.

I'm looking in the Milwaukee area, downtown would be ideal. However, I am willing to go outside of the city a bit if the price was right!

i am having my reception and ceremony at the Wil-O-Way Grant Park in November. when are you getting married? i found out the hard way that Milwaukee County Parks really fill up fast. i ended up changing the date so i could get a spot. anyway, it holds a max of 180 people and i have found that the price is very reasonable (i'm on a budget as well.)
    See: http://county.milwaukee.gov/WilOWayRentals

certain park buildings, like the South Shore Pavilion, run a little more than others. i will say that i attended a wedding at the Pavilion, and it was a beautiful setting!

My only negative with my location is that it is rented by the hour (see link for prices and details.) this includes setting up as well as taking down. but, with help from family and friends, i didn't need to rent it the whole entire day (you can rent blocks of time, like i rented 8am-11am and 6pm-midnight.) Also, they do have off-season prices, which does add up savings! Because I moved my wedding ahead, I ended up saving over $200.00!

the other place that i looked at for my budget wedding was Pat's Oak Creek Manor, off 15th ave in South Milwaukee. the really neat thing about it is the Oak Creek Parkway Park is across the hall and on another side (the lady who takes care of the weddings there say that wedding party will takes pictures there all the time without a permit. although if you have hire a professional photographer, they should always have the necessary permits.) the hall is ONLY $150.00- but the catch is you have to eat their food (they had VERY reasonable prices with wait-staff included, but I cannot vouch for the food.)

i didn't care for the fact that all the drinks at Pat’s are served in the bar area (which is a separate room, opened to the public.) i hate bars and the atmosphere that go with them, so that is the ONLY reason we decided against it. the pros- the smaller hall was decorated so cute, that i wouldn't change a thing (but if you want to, you can! they are very open to let you set things up the way you want to.) they even have a really cute chapel downstairs (unfortunately, not handicapped.) but the thing that turned me off is the stairway and hallway you take to get to the chapel had very icky carpet (beer stains and dirt?)

one thing to keep in mind is that if you do go with renting a park, you will have to either hire someone to decorate the hall or do it yourself. depending upon on how much you want to spend with your desired look, you might find that renting a hall at a restaurant or hotel saves not only time, but comes to the same price range, too. Because I went with a park, I will have to hire a caterer, (other decisions you wouldn’t have to consider with most halls- renting china vs plastic dinnerware, deciding if you want to hire a beverage service ect.  (I have decided that we will just provide soda, a keg of beer, and coffee for our guests to save $$$.)

    good luck on your search!
    Rebecca
