  Our wedding was inspired by Christmas parties/balls I had attended in the past and ones I had seen in old movies.
  
  Even when times were tough, people still knew how to throw a beautiful affair.  Classy, elegant, and not over the top at all. I feel that modern weddings are too all about the glitz in some cases.

  Our wedding was inspired by the season (fall), my husband's nickname for me (sunshine - so sunflowers) and our venue location (two converted barns on a golf course).  I think our style was simple but classy - just like the bride and groom .  

  
  

  It was also inspired by the budget we set.  We did in-season flowers to save money (sunflowers, dahlias, roses, etc...).  We didn't do much decor since the venue was lovely as it was.  All the stationary was DIY (with the help of a friend in the industry!).

  What inspired our wedding was my favorite color, pink. Our theme was pink fantasy and was so elegant. We used platinum as our contrasting color. Even though the theme was pink, it wasn't an in your face, over the top, Barbie's fantasy. Simple elements served as the fantasy portion of our wedding: shimmer instead of matte fondant on our cake, crystals draping from the centerpieces, a lot of candle-light.

  We didn't plan a style, exactly, but ended up with a kind of Asian-y feel. Our venue was an Asian art museum, and overall, I'd say that things were refined but not glitzy or baroque--which is how I would describe a lot of traditional Japanese art. Also, my (soon-to-be) MIL told me I looked like a geisha.
  
  My husband describes it as "Asian with Gatsby/Preppy overtones."

  I found inspiration for our "beach formal" wedding from an old picture of Grace Kelly in a one-shoulder white gown (not her wedding gown). She looks effortless, easy and elegant. I knew I needed that look and feel! Search Google for "Grace Kelly one-shoulder" -- the pic is everywhere.

  We had the hardest time deciding what style fit us best for our wedding. I love a bit of that rustic feel, but also loved those over the top princess/formal style weddings and the two are very hard to put together while still looking cohesive. Initially we thought we'd have to just pick one and go with it. Through the struggle of trying to stay with one style while secretly wanting to incorporate the otehr I finally found my dress and it all clicked. It looked like what a fairytale princess would wear if she were just going for a walk in the forest; she still needs to present herself as royalty, but she's just enjoying nature instead of going to a royal ball. Our venue fits that theme perfectly - it is a somewhat rustic style building but with high end finishes set in a forest with a river right behind the ceremony site. We then chose formal decor, such as white roses and pink table linens with embroidered swirls to bring in that formal vibe, and then incorporated white hydrangea to tie in some of the rustic feel too. Now we're very excited to be inviting our guests to "The Royal Arboretum".
