Overwhelmed! Anyone else?

I am going to try and not make this a rant.
I'm 20 years old, I'm a year from graduating and I am planning in wedding for next June.
But I'm 20, I have only even been to one other wedding in my entire life. I will say that I am pretty happy the the amount I have planned so far, but there is so much that I have no idea how to even get started on!

Caters? DJ's? How much do you provide for out of town guests? Oh my gosh! Where to begin!? I really love all the planning, but I have no experince in any of this.

Midterms are over soon. Hopefully I can get some time over winter break to figure evrything else out. My fiance lives in another country, and our wedding will be in that country, so that is part of the hassle.

Anyone else feel a bit unprepared for this sort of responsiblity?

Re: Overwhelmed! Anyone else?

  • I feel exactly what you are feeling. I am only 19 planning a wedding for June and I have no idea what I am doing! My parents are no help at all, my fiance is too busy with school and work to help much and I am just stressing! Im trying to get everything I can done now but there is so much that I don't know about. I graduate in May, get married in June, move out of town right after the wedding( so now we have apartment hunting on top of that, we dont live together or have our own places), then start the next phase of my schooling in august! Just tonight I was sitting in class and working on the guest list at the same time!!
  • I completely hear you... and it's so nice to hear from other brides who are around my age!!! I feel like most of the people here are in their later 20s... anyone else noticed that?

Anyway, that's exactly what it's like for me. I graduate in May, get married in June. On top of that, I'm also going to Italy with my college choir in May, so I have to pay for that on top of my wedding. :-( I'm really not sure how everything's going to get paid for because my fiance is applying for grad school (which is outrageously expensive), I have a recital coming up (which I still have to buy a dress for... UGH), there are everyday costs like groceries and whatnot... and I don't work that many hours at my job. I'm trying to figure out if I need to get another job, but I feel like I don't have time because I already don't get enough sleep (got sick this week. Go figure). Luckily, I do have my parents to help me, and they've been fantastic so far.
  • I feel you guys.  I'm 21.  Right now I am student teaching which is a 730-4 job that you DONT GET PAID FOR!!!!!!   I graduate in Jan.  On top of that I have class tuesday nights from 4:14-6:15 and I work monday, weds, thurs and fri from 4:15-7, which only totals 12 hrs a week soo income is limited!  And on top of that my fiance got laid off about amonth ago.  Where I live the average job opening receives 200 applications so its hard to get a job.  We have already sent out stds so the date is set for may 7, 2011, but its tough planning with no money.  The only upside is I get done student teaching at the end of November and I can start looking for a full time job and hope I get one.

  • 20 here... between school work planning my wedding (febuary) and moving into an apartment with nothing in it i am always stressed always tried and ALWAYS have something to do... i love planning my wedding and i love my FI but come on baby help me here lol Not only that FI mom doesnt really like the fact we are getting married... come on lady its been six years!!!!!! • I can only echo what you have said here. I am 21, planning a wedding for next July, and I live almost 300 miles away from where we are getting married (My future husband and I are both from Portland, Oregon, so we decided we'd get married there, but are attending school at SOU, which is about 300 miles south of Portland). We both graduate in June, so I'm trying to do most of my planning on breaks from school, but talk about stressful! I also feel your pain on not attending enough weddings...makes it hard to visualize what a wedding *in my budget* looks like.

Anyway, know that you are not alone here- just keep on trucking!
